Goldsboro was founded on October 12, 1795 by Joshua Nance and his brother John as Greenville Station on the Yadkin River. Goldsboro's first store opened in 1802. Goldsboro became an incorporated town on November 3, 1834. The first gold discovery in North Carolina was made near what is now Goldsboro on December 10, 1824 by prospectors led by James Cook with the intention of finding gold vein mineralization potential in this area. The name "Goldsboro" was given to the settlement because its location near Morganton (now Matthews) allowed for easy transportation to Raleigh from surrounding counties and its close proximity to important veins of gold ore made it an attractive place to settle during this time period. The initial population of Goldsborough grew slowly due to lack of opportunity and disease carried by early settlers into what would become Henderson County; however, when steamboats began carrying passengers and goods up or down the Yadkin River in both directions between Raleigh and Wilmington inthe late 1800’s new interests materialized that inspired growth including real estate development as well as agriculture which has continued uninterruptedly through today’s times Goldsboroug

Goldsboro was founded on March 11, 1785 by Captain John Goldsborough and his men during the American Revolution. The town was named after General James Orange of the British army. It grew rapidly due to its natural resources, including coal and silver mines. In 1824, Goldsboro became a county seat and remained so until 1907 when it was moved to Charlotte. Today, Goldsboro is a small city with a population of about 25,000 people. The town's early history is well known because of its role in the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Greenville took place in nearby Roanoke Island on April 19, 1781, as part of the North Carolina Campaign. General James Orange led an assault against Spanish forces at Goldsboro Heights on October 12 that resulted in acomplete victory for the Patriot cause over their Spanish opponents. Goldsborough's goldmining interests quickly attracted attention from other entrepreneurs in the area. By 1800, he had formed two companies that conducted operations at Roanoke Island and elsewhere in eastern North Carolina. These ventures proved successful and soon generated enough wealth to support him through his lifetime without any outside assistance. He died childless in 1825 and bequeathed his mines to his son-in-law Nicholas Hervey (1782-1856). Nicholas Hervey continued his father's mining enterprises until they came into conflict with others interested in coalmining near Charlotte in 1829. A band of Creek Indians ambushed both firms while they were working together downstream at Pittston River; both men were killed as a result. This event provided impetus for development around Goldsboro – which began with construction of roads and homes within years thereafter – as rival miners looking for new land developed alternative routes between Roanoke Island and Charlotte seeking extraction points along Pittston River estuary - thus creating what would become known as "Old Mines" district surrounding Goldsboro today! After this initial period of dramatic growth following her father's death – coincidentally also just shy of 250 years ago – much normality returned to life hereabouts by 1870 primarily thanks to steady investment by local merchants who prospered adjacent markets thereby NEARING CENTRAL NC... especiallyCharlotte where Wilmington got established only AFTER GOLDSBOROUGH HAD MOVED TO CHARLOTTE

Goldsboro was founded in 1827 by James Woodruff and others as a fur-trading post on the Catawba River. It became a small slaveholding community before becoming an agricultural center after Reconstruction. The post office was established in 1828 and remained in operation until 1865. Goldsboro was briefly the capital of North Carolina during the American Civil War, but Raleigh eventually superseded it.
