In 1948, Don Hutto opened The Hutto Cafe on Main Street in downtownGraham after moving from Raleigh. Hutto started serving breakfast until 12 noon then switched to espresso drinks until 6 pm. In 1955, Sam Goode opened Goode's Cafeteria on West Main Street adjacent to Piedmont Technical Community College which became one of Graham's mainstay restaurants throughout the 1960s and 1970s because of its excellent food service quality as well as its proximity to campus resources like libraries and classrooms. Goode also operated a grocery store beneath his restaurant between 1966-1973 when PTC closed its doors permanently due to budget cuts within Gov't institutions statewide at that time). During these years many other prominent locals such as Bill Cosby stopped by goode's for lunch or dinner during their visits around town (though Cosby only ever ate at Goode's once!). In 1980 Johnnie Smith opened Smith's Cafeteria on Broadbent Ave just north of Interstate 85A off US 27 close to US 421 which became one of Graham’s most popular tourist attractions especially during summer months thanks largely to its wide variety of international cuisine options offered along with great views across interstate highway traffic! Graham was founded in 1838 by General Richard Butler and his brothers. The town was named for General Butler's father, John Graham, who had fought in the American Revolution. In 1865, when Confederate troops retreated from Durham after a bloody battle at Fort Fisher, Graham became one of the few Southern towns to remain loyal to the Confederacy. In 1970, Graham merged with Chapel Hill to form the Research Triangle Park region.
