The Henderson Police Department is one of the oldest in the country. It was founded on July 16, 1875, by a group of men who were tired of having to fight crime on their own. The department has always been committed to ensuring that everyone in the community feels safe and secure. Today, the Henderson Police Department oversees an population of over 1,000 officers and firefighters. They provide service to citizens of all ages and backgrounds, both inside and outside of the city limits. In addition to providing law enforcement services, the Henderson Police Department participates in various community outreach initiatives. Henderson, North Carolina is a small town in Henderson County, North Carolina. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Henderson were the Spanish in 1510 and they named it "San Salvador." Henderson was founded by General Andrew Jackson in 1824 as a military outpost on the Transylvania River. The town grew rapidly with development of the post office and other businesses. By 1830, Henderson had more than 1,000 residents and an arsenal and jail. In 1838, militia forces under General John Cushing burned down Henderson's courthouse after determining that there were no plans to move the seat of government from Raleigh to Henderson. In 1861, Union troops under Lt Colonel Nathaniel Banks burned down four houses in downtown Henderson as part of their attack on Confederate forces stationed there. This action helped convince South Carolina Governor Francis Pickens to order Confederate General Robert Easley to burn down all towns west of Kingston (later known as Asheville) in order to starve those rebels into submission. In 1865, local resident James Aiken organized a group which fought for Southern independence during the American Civil Warbler Battle at Fort Sumter within sight of home (the battle is often considered one of the most pivotal moments in United States history). Afterward, Aiken offered his home for use as a hospital until he died from wounds received that year while leading Confederate forces against Union forces near Surry County Courthouse on April 14th 1865. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many African Americans moved into Henderson either because they could not find jobs or because they wanted closer access to education and political rights denied them during Reconstruction period through laws passed by both Northern and Southern legislatures respectively. Aftermath of Reconstruction saw increased violence across America including attacks on white residents by black criminals and "Radical" blacks who desired equality but also social stability among African Americans living among whites; however this did not stop white supremacists from moving into isolated areas such as Henderson while unofficially claiming it as their own neighborhood/township/province called White Oaks Heights although this claim has been debunked numerous times due to lack evidence). In 1923–1925 Dr J R Smith conducted experiments at White Oaks Heights becoming oneofthefirst researcherstouseradiofrequency radiation therapyinhumans(then later developedintoacurricularmedicaltreatment).[1] In 1951–1953 Dr W Haddad usedultracoldwatercooled radiotherapyona patientnamedJohn Fenton who had multiple myelomausingintracranial radiotherapyformultiplemyelomas[2][3][4]henceforthknownasDrFenton]. Henderson, North Carolina is a small town located in western Henderson County, North Carolina. The population was 1,803 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Henderson, NC micropolitan area. The community was founded in 1885 by three men who purchased land from the Cherokee Indians. The name "Henderson" came from one of these men, Henderson Whitehead. Henderson quickly grew to become an important hamlet on the route between Charlotte and Raleigh. In 1922, local farmers decided to build a school in the community and named it after then-Governor James K. Polk. The first school building was completed in 1923 and served as the municipal center for Henderson until 1955 when new facilities were built at what is now known as Town Hall Square.
