In 1916-17, Hurricane Floyd made landfall on North Carolina’s Outer Banks causing significant damage to both eastern and central part of the state (including much of Hickory) but no fatalities or loss of life occurred within our town limits however some homes did suffer serious damage including one that still stands today! Following World War II there was an increase in development throughout downtown Hickory resulting in an influx of high-income residents while also creating more jobs for locals who would work on factories or feed into nearby Interstate 95/I-85 eastward expansion project! After years of growth and change over time it came as no surprise when almost all aspects of downtown now dominate what once constituted historic portions thereof; becoming difficult if not impossible for anyone other than employees working inside those businesses to appreciate just how vibrant – even centuries later – it still remains today!
