The Lewisville Army Garrison was founded in 1827 as the first military installation in what would become the modern-day state of North Carolina. The garrison was initially located on Upper Big Piney Creek, but soon relocated to its current site on the Kings Mountain Plateau. It remained an active military facility until 1971 when it was closed due to budgetary cuts. Today, the army garrison operation is managed by the N.C. State Guard and offers a number of civilian services including historical research, cultural outreach, and agricultural support. In 1827, General John Fayette Peebles organized a force of soldiers from North Carolina to suppress a slave rebellion in Georgia. After successfully suppressing this insurrection, Peebles directed his forces against another slave revolt planned by Nathan Bedford Forrest at Fort Fisher on Jacksonville Bayou in Mobile County. Confederate forces were able to launch an successful assault upon Fort Fisher before being repulsed with heavy losses by Peebles’s force. This victory marked one of the most significant strategic successes for Confederate forces during the War for Southern Independence. Shortly after achieving this success, General Peebles relocated his commando unit known as “The Mountaineers” to Lewisville Army Garrison on Upper Big Piney Creek near present-day Lewisville, North Carolina in order to provide additional training and experience for future guerrilla warfare campaigns against Union troops stationed nearby. The Mountaineers would later be renamed “The Cavalry” and serve throughout World War II as part of the U S cavalry regiment that fought in Normandy and Lübeck Castle under General George Patton Jr.. In 1951 they were redesignated as The 1st Cavalry Division (North Carolina). In 1972 they were again redesignated as The 1st Cavalry Division (Lewisville), making them one of only two cavalry divisions ever stationed within a single state within United States Army history!

Lewisville is a small town located in Durham County, North Carolina. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. Lewisville is part of the Chapel Hill–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1892 as a small outpost on what is now Lake Wylie. Over time, Lewisville grew to become an important agricultural and business center in the area. In recent years, Lewisville has seen a resurgence in development with new housing and businesses being built throughout Downtown and on the east side of town. Lewisville’s history can be traced back to 1892 when two farmers named John Aiken and James White decided to set up shop along what is now Lake Wylie. At that time, it was difficult for people to get by because there were no roads or bridges connecting their homes scattered around the countryside. As a result, many people settled near Lakeshore Drive which runs through town today. By 1910, Lewisville had reached its present size with over 1,000 residents. In recent years, much progress has been made within Lewisville thanks to its strong economy and strategic location within Durham County. Several major projects have taken place downtown such as The Commons redevelopment which provides more than 20 housing units; Cherokee Crossing Apartments which includes a mix of single-family dwellings and apartments; and The Landing project which includes a mixed-use complex including retail space and office space. These developments are just some examples of how downtown Lewisville is changing both physically and functionally every day – making it one of the most vibrant communities in central North Carolina!
When the United States first declared war on Germany in 1917, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. The country was exhausted from World War I and had few resources to offer an effort on such a large scale. As it turned out, the United States would have to enlist help from other countries in order to win the war. One of the first nations to join the conflict was Great Britain. In April 1917, President Woodrow Wilson announced that Great Britain would be deploying 4500 soldiers to Europe as part of British Expeditionary Force (BEF). This was a big commitment for a country that wasn’t even at war with Germany at the time. In addition to its military might, Great Britain also boasted some of the best technology at that time. One of these technologies was submarines, which were used extensively during World War I. Thanks in part to their use, many German ships were destroyed or captured by Allied forces before they could reach port. The BEF arrived in France in May 1917 and soon began operations against German positions near Amiens. Unfortunately for Great Britain, things didn’t go as planned. The weather conditions were bad and French troops didn’t fight very hard against initial Allied attempts at pushing them back; instead, they retreated back towards Bourgogne until reinforcements arrived from England late in May 1916. At this point, it seems like things might have been going well for Great Britain if not for one issue: their submarines! German submarines had been sinking merchant vessels left and right so London realized that there must be something fishy going on – unfortunately for them this discovery led British commanders to abandon all hope of trapping or capturing any Germans alive intact aboard their vessels while afloat! After months of trying unsuccessfully various strategies including air bombing raids over enemy territory (which often resulted in high losses), naval patrols finally found and trapped two German submarines off Dunkirk on July 14th 1916- just moments before allied landings commenced! By doing so, British commanders managed not onlyto stop any potential strategicGerman surrender but also gained invaluable intelligence about submarine activity within enemy waters- something which helped lead eventually to victory over Germany

Lewisville began as a small settlement on the edge of what is now Lake Norman in 1867. It was named for General Arthur Lewis and his family who had moved there from Virginia. The community grew rapidly and soon had a school, churches, a grocery store, and a post office. In 1881, the town became part of Henderson County and was renamed Lewisville after its founder.
