Coffee became popular in Europe after it was discovered by Portuguese traders in the 15th century. In 1795, Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano discovered what is now called Java Sea and brought back some of the first coffee beans to Italy. Coffee began to be exported to other parts of the world during this time and eventually became very popular in North America, where it was originally grown. By 1840, coffee had spread throughout most of Europe and was being enjoyed by people from all walks of life. In 1853, Dutchman Piet Oudolf found an area near Batavia (Java), which would later become Indonesia, and started growing coffee. At this point, Indonesia was known as Riau Islands because all the islands were connected by water. Because there were no roads or proper irrigation systems at this time, purebred coffees were difficult to obtain and expensive to produce. This made Indonesian coffee much more affordable for American consumers who were starting to become interested in foodstuff imports from Asia. However, due to political instability in Indonesia during this time period (which led to many cultural clashes between different groups), Java Sea coffee production stopped completely around 1945-1946 (the height of World War II). As a result, Indonesian purebred coffee ceased production as well; however, unique blends continue to be produced today under various brand names such as Soeproof or Merkur-coffee
In 1838, entrepreneur and coffee baron James Fenton bought a farm in Lexington, North Carolina. He soon started importing coffee from other parts of the world and selling it at his coffee shop. In 1845, he founded the first commercially successful roasting company in America. The business grew rapidly and by 1850, Fenton was able to purchase a large plantation in central North Carolina. The plantation yielded high-quality beans that were exported all over the United States. In 1865, Fenton sold his business to his son-in-law John Aiken. From then on, the Aiken familyowned company continued to produce quality coffee until it was discontinued in 1972.

For example, on April 12th, 1881 white supremacists riots took place throughout downtown Lexington after news emerged that black people were being arrested without charge or trial on charges such as vagrancy oralexia (a mental illness characterized by uncontrolled eating). This event is considered one of the worst cases of race-based violence in American history and led to several deaths among both black people and police officers involved. Additionally, during Reconstruction following Reconstruction era policies implemented by former Confederate president Abraham Lincoln, African Americans were barred from voting and many areas within Lexington were effectively segregated until later years when passage of Jim Crow laws prohibited such discrimination statewide. Despite these challenges, however, much progress has been made since those dark days in Lexington – including renovations to local schools which have seen increased enrollment rates among minority students; new businesses opening up;; growth in art galleries and music venues; increasing diversity among elected officials; advancements towards renewable energy sources; etcetera – all while continuing to maintain a vibrant community spirit that welcomes everyone who visits!
