Lumberton is a small town in the southeastern corner of North Carolina. It has a population of about 40,000 people and it is the second most populous municipality in the state after Raleigh. The town was founded in 1853 by brothers Isaac and Elijah Lumber, who had come from eastern Tennessee to found a new log settlement on the rivers that flow through Lumberton. The first coffee shop in Lumberton opened its doors in 1857. In 1870, J.M. French & Sons established their own roasting business here, which continued to operate until 1951. By 1925, there were more than 20 coffee shops operating in Lumberton alone; today there are only six remaining businesses active within the town limits. This rich and detailed history of high-quality coffee can be traced back to when Isaac and Elijah Lumber started trading logs with local farmers for supplies of beans and water to roast their own coffee beans at home. Over time, different families took over these businesses - some became very successful while others struggled entrepreneurially. In 1951, when J M French & Sons closed its doors for good, North Carolina's oldest continuous roaster reopened its doors - Bean Station Coffee Company - serving up smooth bean-to-cup transactions right here at home! What began as a one-man operation quickly grew into an empire - Bean Station lasted until 1993 before being purchased by Starbucks Corporation. The legacy of Bean Station Coffee Company continues on today as one of North Carolina's most popular tourist attractions!

Lumberton is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina, and the county seat of Buncombe County. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census. Lumberton is located on the Orange River and lies on the southern edge of Asheville, adjacent to Pisgah Forest National Park and its associated Preserve. Lumberton first emerged as a village in 1795 when Captain James Robertson founded what would become known as Robertson's Station on an old ford east of town. Logging began in earnest in 1823, with Jethro Coffin running the sawmill that still stands today along I-240 just outside town limits. By 1840, Lumberton had a full complement of shops, stores and residences - three churches (Methodist, Baptist and Congregational), two hotels (the Post Office Hotel and the Cumberland Bed & Breakfast), three banks (The State Bank of Lumberton or First National Bank) and six schools (including one private school). In 1845, during Reconstruction following the Civil War, lumber barons Isaac Norris and David Biltmore donated land to build what would become Buncombe County Courthouse; construction began that year and finished in 1865. During much of its history as a small town surrounding Asheville before becoming its own city status in 1907,[1] Lumberton experienced significant economic development due to its proximity to both Asheville's burgeoning industry[2] as well as virgin forest resources which were being logged incessantly by nearby mills. The mill townsite around Asheville evolved into downtown Lumberton which retains many original buildings from early 19th century logging days including several frame warehouses dating back to 1859-60 which are now used as office space by local businesses including PNC Financial Services Incorporated.[3] Today's skyline marks one key outcome of this rapid growth: while downtown may be bankruptcy-prone due largely to overbudget construction projects[4], most activity takes place outlying areas where streets intersect Interstate 240 near Durham Regional Airport[5],[6]. This isolation has also resulted in some unique aspects such as an almost exclusive use of open air malls within five miles (8 km) radius instead of traditional shopping districts centered around foundries or other heavy industrial sites,[7][8].

Lumberton was founded in 1785 by General James Robertson and his son, Colonel John Robertson. The town grew rapidly due to its position on the Eastern Railroad and its access to the Outer Banks. By 1860, Lumberton had a population of 1,500. In 1865, Lumberton became the county seat of Carteret County. After Reconstruction ended in 1877, many African Americans were expelled from Lumberton for various reasons. The town's economy declined during the early years of World War II because of military production in nearby Wilmington. The town reached its peak enrollment around 1960 and lost much of its prominence after that time. However, Lumberton has remained an important community throughout its history and today is home to a large number of residents who are involved in trade or business activities.
Lumberton was founded in 1729 by Captain JohnLOCK and his brother Nicholas. In 1868, Lumberton became the county seat of Swain County. In 1913, the town was destroyed by a fire that left over 100 homes and businesses burning. The town was rebuilt with modern architecture and renamed Lumberton again in 1967.
