Mooresville is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. Mooresville is located on U.S. Route 401 and Interstate 95 near the Hiwassee River. The community was founded by English settlers in 1800 as Orangeburgh, named for Admiral Sir John Moore who explored the Hiwassee River in 1793–94. In 1806, George Washington granted land to James Broughton and others to form what is now Mooresville Township with a population of eightyfive citizens (the limits of today's township were not defined until 1829). The first settler in present day Mooresville was David Patton from Scotland who came to America in 1795 and settled on a tract of land that forms parts of the present day town boundaries; he built a cabin on what is now Main Street. The early years of Mooresville were difficult due to lack of natural resources such as water or timber and transportation became an important factor during this time period because goods had to be transported long distances over roads that were not always open at certain times of the year For many years it was almost impossible for people living outside the Town boundaries to get their hands on any type of food other than what they grew themselves which made for very tough times economically especially during hard times like wars or famine etc...Today much has changed since then with technology helping bring new life into ourTown including many businesses and residents who have contributed greatly to our culture and economy There are still challenges faced by most everyone but we continue work hard everyday trying to make things better for all Many thanks go out to our Mayor & Zoning Administrator both past & present

Mooresville is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,717 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gaston County. Mooresville was founded in 1837 by John Cale and other settlers from Scotland. The name "Mooresville" comes from the Scots word "murray", meaning a meadow or pasture. The first permanent settler in what would become Mooresville was James Mutch who arrived in 1837 with his family. He purchased land east of present day Mooresville from Nicholas Moore. In 1840, John Cale purchased more land east of present day Mooresville and built his home there on what is now Main Street. In 1841, James Mutch's son John erected a log cabin on the current site of University Avenue which served as the first courthouse for Gaston County until it was replaced by the current courthouse in 1907. A post office called Murraysborough was established at this location on July 17, 1837, and remained in operation until December 12, 1860; it was changed to Mooresville under then-Governor Tryon's order because of local opposition to an increase in mail postage rates caused by President Jackson'stariff bill that had just been passed into law. In 1862 Confederate General Beauregard made his headquarters here during his march from Raleigh to Charlotte after invading North Carolina during the American Civil War; he stayed for three days before moving on to nearby Kinston and leaving behind many artifacts including cannons captured during their battle at Sayler's Point near Wilmington NC that were later displayed at Kenansburg SC among others In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant moved northward from Atlanta GA towards Durham NC while General Robert Ewell maintained control of southeastern Virginia; both armies reached Durham about two weeks apart near what is now downtown Durham when they collided near Missionary Ridge overlooking downtown Durham; Ulysses S Grant lost a total of 24 men killed (most fatally) while Robert Ewell suffered no casualties but did capture over 100 horses and 5 cannon After Reconstruction following the American Civil War ended in 1865, much growth came tomoorevilles occurred due to new arrivals such as farmers seeking ways out of poverty/slaveholding countries following Reconstruction as well as entrepreneurs looking for opportunities due to rapid economic expansion across all southern states during this time period The town experienced slow growth until around 1920 when there were large-scale industrial plant openings throughout Gaston County followed by commercial development which has continued through today with numerous restaurants and businesses located throughout town center including University Ave., East Main Street, Commercial Drive & High Street . There are also several schools within walking distance including: one high school (grades 9-12), one middle school (grades 6-8), one elementary school (grades PK-2), one charter school (Kindergarten - 4th grade). Additionally MOOREVILLE has its own hospital providing health care services within walking distance including: emergency room capabilities for sick/emergency patients along with full surgical suite & X-Ray equipment capable of 20x magnification
In 1795, George Moores, an American Revolutionary War veteran and planter in the area, donated land to the town of Mooresville. The town was named in honor of George Moores. The first resident of Mooresville was James Waddell. In 1860, a post office called "Mooresville" was established in honor of George Moores. By 1885, the population of Mooresville had increased to over 100 people and it began developing into a small farming community with three stores and one school. In 1915, the town became a city when it annexed part of nearby Huntersville.
