Morrisville is a small town in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Myrtle Beach-Beachboro-New Bern Combined Statistical Area. Morrisville is located on U.S. Route 252 and Interstate 95. The first settler in Morrisville was James Aiken, who arrived in 1774 from Augusta, Georgia. Aiken's descendants still live in Morrisville today as well as among other nearby towns such as Anson and Yancey counties. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson passed through Morrisville on his way to battle Sherman at Antietam Creek Bridge near present day Hampton Roads Naval Base and ordered all male citizens over 21 years of age to leave for military service under the command of Brigadier General Braxton Bragg. Many residents chose to stay and wait out what seemed like inevitable war; however, by 1830 most men had either left for better opportunities or been drafted into the Union army during the American Civil War (1861–1865). When America won its independence from Great Britain in 1871, many people decided to move back south into what was then Union territory – especially since there were few opportunities available back east for those with advanced degrees or skills in industry or agriculture (the exceptions being Rhode Island). Many new businesses were established along US 252 specifically catering to this new population: shoemaking, tanning hides, brewing beer and selling Clarence cigarettes from a small store that still stands today on Main Street just north of US 52/I-95 intersection. In time these businesses grew larger and more complex until they became quite large employers within their respective communities; one local paper even went so far as to call them "The Three Musketeers." As business boomed throughout rural North Carolina during this time period there was also an increase demand for education; after all, without a marketable commodity there could be little incentive for farmers to keep their land fertile and farming families would have difficulty sustaining themselves financially long term without additional income coming from outside sources like mining or manufacturing companies… much like it has ever been before! With access to good schools now available not only throughout Rural America but Cass County too (due largely to state funding initiatives), life began anew for manymorrisvilles immigrants who had once faced discrimination both before arrival here as well as after settlement here - something which continues unabated to this day!
