Mount Holly is a small town in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area and is the county seat of Edgecombe County. The first European to visit Mount Holly was Captain James Cook in 1747. He named it "Hollyhock" after a nearby tree. The town's name comes from its location on the mountain, which was once covered with huckleberries. In 1824, Mount Holly became a dry township and did not have any municipal services until 1889. The post office at Mount Holly has been in operation since 1811. Mount Holly was settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived around 1790 during Colonel Nicholas Johnston's land grant for settlers in what is now Edgecombe County. Most of these Irishmen were farmers who erected log cabins and farms near the intersection of Ulysses Road and Hawkins Street where they operated dairy businesses called "Johnstown". A few years later some Germans also moved into this area and began to farm while others built homes around 1800-1810 using logs brought over on shipments of lumber from North Carolina's Pee Dee Mountains region. They named their new village "Hollyhock" after one of their trees that had been cut down near their home settlement on Catawba River by white men as part of a program to clear land for farming purposes; this event is known as the Maple Hill Massacre because three British subjects were killed when their settler wagon overturned while traveling up Maple Hill Drive in 1825. In 1824, Mount Holly became an independent township when it separated from Johnstonstown Township due to lack of support from local officials within Edgecombe County for forming its own government separate from Johnstonstown Township - an action taken by then-County President John Morton following his recommendation letter submitted to Governor Tryon requesting such a change in legislation passed by the General Assembly two years earlier[1]. However, annexation into Wakefield Borough occurred quickly thereafter – another result following Johnstonstown Township's annexation – so there wasn't much growth or development taking place within Mount Holly itself until later decades when more people started moving into town due to burgeoning industry (such as agriculture) along with natural renewal (such as rising temperatures). West Creek Boulevardoriginally designated rural road number 5 southbound between Hawkins Street and Ulysses Road running east/west followed soon afterwards by I-440 which bypassed downtown making it difficult if not impossible for residents living further out west or east access what little commerce existed beyond stores located on Hawkins Street or US 401 northbound just outside downtown becomingincreasingly less accessible with each mile traveled away from center city limits creating what would eventually become known as 'the beltway'. Downtown business districts slowly shrunk back upon entering into Hollowaytown Center only increasing traffic volumes heading towards Interstate 240 which effectively severed downtown economy once again leaving only service areas like Gastonia available for locals outside core city boundaries although limited commercial corridors still remained east/west Entering Gastonia now results in almost complete deprivation resultingin extremely high prices for goods Outside core city limits prices continueto drop significantly

In 1939, the Coast Guard acquired its first jet-powered vessel, the PCS-4 Alaskan (AO-1). In 1951, the CG purchased its first helicopter, HC-130 Hercules. Since then,CG has operated more than 400 vessels and helicopters that provide coastal security and Search and Rescue operations. Helicopter search & rescue is also used for law enforcement purposes when needed for investigations or prosecutions. Today, coast guard gift history can be divided into two eras: The Golden Age of Helicopter gifting (1991-2001) and The New Frontier of Helicopter gifting (2002-present). During this time period, CG made great strides in technology with their introduction of both rotorcraft helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Mount Holly was founded in 1736 by John Clements, a British captain who had been sent to North Carolina as an agent of the King of France. The town was named for Mount Holly in Lebanon, England, where Clements had been born. A log cabin was the first structure built in Mount Holly and it served as the town's only resident building until 1871. In that year, the town constructed its first school. Since then, Mount Holly has grown rapidly and now has a population of over 60,000 residents. The history of Mount Holly begins with its early days as a logging community. Over time, the area became known for its valuable lumber resources and its many mills were developed to help turn these resources into useful products. One of these mills, which still stands today and is used mainly for spinningNULLR yarns NULLN purpose NULLS (see below), was opened in 1819 by local businessman James Smithwick. In addition to its important lumber industry, Mount Holly also played an important role during Reconstruction Period in North Carolina. After the Civil War ended, many Northerners wanted to move back south and start anew after experiencing some difficult times back home. To this end, they helped rebuild what had once been one of the most prosperous southerly communities on Earth. Many businesses reopened after Reconstruction and new homes were built across from old mill buildings throughout much of downtown Mount Holly. Some remain active today - such as JK's Place bar & grill (www) - while others have closed down or are no longer open due to various reasons (e.g., competition from newer bars or restaurants). During his long life as Mayor of Mount Holly City Councilman Jim Caldwell attended more than 100 events related to civic development at various sites around town including: ball games at Hillcrest Park; street fairs; banquets given at Masonic Temple; harvest potluck dinners held at churches; picnics on upland fields near Appalachian Lake; Christmas parties hosted at homes belonging to prominent citizens such as Drayton family member Mrs Jane Addams; two public meetings about plans for white water rafting down Duck Creek just outside town limits He also chaired three committees which prepared recommendations for developing land east of Polebridge Road into mixed-use parkland with recreational amenities including swimming pools (the present day Polebridge Community Pool) . These committees analyzed reports prepared by local architects stating that there would be no need for additional housing within city limits once proper facilities existed adjacent thereto
Mount Holly was first settled in 1771 by a group of Scots settlers. The town/ village was named for Sir John Mount Holly, 1st Baronet, who donated land to the community. The town was originally located on the eastern side of the mountain and grew slowly until it became a major enough political and commercial center that it needed its own police force in 1848. In 1868, Mount Holly voted to secede from North Carolina due to the state's low taxes and lack of representation in the legislature. The secession movement failed, but the town continues to be one of its few reminders of its once powerful status.
