Smith as a response to the Triangle of Death which occurred off the coast of Louisiana and Florida. However, it was during this time period that Station Newbern came into its own as it became known for its capability for handling high value smuggling contraband along Interstate 95 through First Street Bridgegate area between Wilmington and Chapel Hill Counties west of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where drugs were trafficked from Colombia into America via I-95 corridor USS Guardian FFG 571 docked at NBI after being moved from Pompano Beach FL her previous homeport . On October 8th 1993 USS Guardian FFG 571 picked up Special Agents from NC State Crime Lab Special Agent Wylie Jarrell from NC State Crime Lab aboard upon return trip following successful seizure operation against Colombian cocaine trafficking organization called La Familia Cartel located at 3800 S Airport Blvd Jacksonville , Florida . ThisOperation resulted in indictments against 3 individuals including Gustavo Gomez Rios alias “El Gordo”; Eduardo Medina Garcia alias “El Tejo”; Arturo Gutierrez Martinez alias “ El Agua Caliente” all members of la Familia cartel having ties direct or indirect with Carlos Slim Heluviaquez Mexican President) operating out ofJacksonvilleFL under assumed name Fernando Gonzalez Diaz brandishing handguns possessed without license or registered weapon purchased outside USA

In the 19th century, NewBern developed as an agricultural community with extensive production of cotton and other crops. The town also became known for its large library and its many cultural institutions. After World War II, Newbern became increasingly industrialized, with numerous factories developing in the area. However, some of these businesses struggled to remain solvent after the Great Recession hit North Carolina in 2009. In 2015, Newbern voters passed a referendum approving annexation by Durham County.
