One of the first businesses in Rocky Mount was a grocery store. This store was responsible for starting the local tradition of buying and selling coffee from local beans. From this store, people started purchasing coffee from various roasters in town. One of these roasters, Donato's Coffee Roasters, started making their own beans and packaging them specifically for Rocky Mount residents. The city also gained notoriety for its roasted coffees. In 1984, Donato's Coffee Roasters built an oven specifically to roast their own beans and sell them directly to consumers. This oven became known as the "DonatoRoaster." It continued to serve as a source of roasted coffee until 1997 when it merged with another roaster, Blue Bottle Coffee Company LLC., which made it easier for consumers to find their favorite espresso drinks at any timeof day or location around town. Since then, Rocky Mount has become synonymous with high-quality artisan coffee and has become a popular tourist destination for those looking for unique experiences outside of standard tourist destinations such as New York City or San Francisco Bay Area

Rocky Mount is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,513 at the 2010 census. Rocky Mount is part of the Raleigh-Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General Andrew Jackson, who fought in the American Revolution and then became president of the United States. In 1868, an entrepreneur named Lewis Hargrave built a sawmill on the Roanoke River. This mill powered a small town that grew up around it until World War II when Rocky Mount joined neighboring Durham as one of the towns bombed by America's bombing campaign during World War II. A post office called Rocky Mount was established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1965. Rocky Mount has been home to several colleges and universities: Appalachian State University (1902), Duke University (1925), UNC Chapel Hill (1957), Wake Forest School of Medicine (1986), Western Carolina University (2002). In 2006, Rocky Mount also welcomed its first professional soccer team as Campbellsville FC reached .500 play in their inaugural season in PDL soccer with victories over Hampton Roads FC and Moorefield SC respectively.

Rocky Mount is a small town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,561 at the 2010 census. Rocky Mount is located on the Yadkin River and is part of the Asheville-Biltmore area. The first European to sight Rocky Mount was Captain John Smith on his voyage from Jamestown to Virginia in 1607. He named it Onslow after himself and Rangely after Sir James Onslow, 4th Baronet of Dorset (1553–1627). In 1775 General George Washington arrived at Rocky Mount for his campaign against British forces during the American Revolution. He encampment here during that time. In 1833 a post office called Rocky Mount was established; it continued until 1909. As early as 1792 Cherokee Indian traders had been trading at what is now RockyMount Creek near present day Gastonia Avenue and US 421 in what is now Robeson County. They were known as "the Ragamuffins." A group of Scots Presbyterian missionaries under Revolutions clergyman Alexander McNaught traveled through this area in 1814 and found several abandoned villages including RockyMount Creek where they founded Eighty Mile Mission Station which remain today as one of Christianity's most successful African American missions with over 2,000 converts since its founding in 1828. Rocky Mountain Coal Company operated nearby diggings from 1863 to 1865; these operations produced about 9 million pounds of coal which helped power many eastern mills during that period. During World War II local residents delivered food and other essential items to soldiers stationed nearby at Camp Hill Airfield; also, local families raised chickens, pigs, horses and milk cows for their local grocery stores while war raged outside Today much of what once characterized rockymount has been replaced by modern development such as an amusement park called Six Flags Over Georgia/Six Flags Over America/Gastonia Pointe amusement park just east of town limits along I-85 corridor
