The history of the Army National Guard in Spring Lake, North Carolina goes back to 1865. The unit was organized as a regiment on April 15, 1865, and served in the Union army until September 1, 1865. On that date, the unit was disbanded. On January 1, 1927, the Regiment was reorganized as an Infantry battalion and served in the State Guard until 1971. In 1971, it was abolished and its members were transferred to other units within the State Guard system. However, since it is still represented by staff officers (the Colonel) at state government functions and ceremonial events statewide there is some remnant of it present today in Spring Lake as part of the NC Army National Guard Department
Spring Lake is a small, but picturesque, community in Robeson County, North Carolina. The population was 553 at the 2000 census and 604 at the 2010 census. The community is located on the south side of Spring Lake between White Oak Road and Hickory Grove Road. It is bordered by Interstate 85 to the east and north, Summerville to the south, and Rocky Mount to the west. The area that now makes up Spring Lake was originally part of Cherokee Nation territory. In 1825, a group of settlers from Georgia arrived in what is now Robeson County and started farming around Spring Lake. By 1830, there were about seventy-five people living in what becameSpring Lake. In 1832, Cherokee Chief Cushman sold parcels of land surrounding his village of Troupville to three white men for $1 per acre. This development led to the name "Troupville" being applied to most of present-day Robeson County when it was first organized as a county in 1796. In 1834, Indian Removal began; all Native Americans were forced from their homes within Cherokee Nation boundaries. Most of those who remained in northeast North Carolina were forcibly relocated to Oklahoma Territory where they faced starvation and death due to disease Outbreak after Outbreak caused by American Indians fighting for their rights against Ulysses S Grant's forces during the Indian Wars (1861-1865). A few hundred Cherokees managed to remain behind and founded what is today Spring Lake on some abandoned farmsteads near White Oak Road in 1840 following pressure from United States officials seeking restitution for lost property taken during Indian Removal. After more than two centuries living among humans only marginally different than them – whether through agriculture or trade – Cherokees experienced dramatic changes during World War II when they were displaced by Japanese Americans subject to concentration camps and then relocation along with other minority groups across America’s East Coast under orders issued by Franklin D Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program entitled “Lend Lease” which provided economic assistance Package To Allied nations warring Against Nazi Germany including Japan through providing employment opportunities for millions American citizens whose skills had been repurposed abroad

Spring Lake is located in Carteret County, North Carolina, and was first mentioned in 1772. It was named for the spring that bled at its surface. The earliest residents of Spring Lake were a group of Cherokee who hunted deer and other animals near the lake. In 1812, a group of Methodists founded a small Methodist church on the shores of Spring Lake. The Reverend James Hargrave served as the first pastor of this church from 1812-1815. In 1865, the United States acquired what is now Spring Lake from Mexico in the Treaty of Paris following the American Civil War. The U.S. government used this land to build Camp Pickens on present-day White Oak Hill Road within sight of SpringLake Creek which separates it fromadditional springs and streams that provided water for surrounding communities. The town at SpringLakeBeach was laid out in 1865 by Drury Wills with help from Jno Crainey, an early settler and doctor who had movedfrom Fort Mill to be near new medical facilities being built there by Jesse Moseley and others in 1849-50. The first known permanent settler in Spring Lake was one Andrew Williamson, who arrived in 1786. He and his family built a cabin on the east side of the lake. The first school in Spring Lake was organized by Mr. Williamson in 1807. In 1825, John Latham founded a gristmill on the west side of the lake. In 1829, A.J.'s son John married Sarah Goodspeed and they started a grocery store on the north side of the lake. In 1865, Isaac Hildebrandt built a cabin on the southeast corner of Spring Lake from lumber he had brought over from North Carolina. By 1870, there were six homes and twenty-four residents living in Spring Lake."
