Tarboro, North Carolina is a small town in the eastern part of the United States. The population was 6,970 at the 2010 census. It is located on Yadkin County's southern border and is surrounded by Caldwell County to the south and southwest, Lenoir County to the northwest, and Randolph County to the north. The first permanent settler of Tarboro was John Watts in 1781. In 1849, Tarboro became a county seat under state law. The growth of Tarboro during this time was due in large part to its strategic location as it lay on two important roads connecting Raleigh with Lynchburg and Petersburg. By 1870, Tarboro had become an important transportation hub for southeastern North Carolina due to its railroads and river access. In 1882, Tarboro became presidentially authorized by South Carolina to secede from that state over disagreements about voting rights for black people within its borders. The local paper reported that "the people of Tarboro have always been bold enough to take their own course", despite initial opposition from some members of Congress who felt that secession would lead to violence or economic ruin withinTarborough itself. After protracted debate and several ballots by referendum, on December 1st 1880, Tarboro seceded from South Carolina and joined the newly formed Union State of North Carolina The area currently known as Tarborowiek Township was organized separately from what is now Yadkin County in 1893 when Rutherfordton Township east of town split off from Rutherfordton School District #5 which also included much of rural Davie Parish including parts of Beechwood Village (now Arrington). On November 8th 1924 voters in Yancey Township re-franchised all residents there following a special election held afterWilliam Hickey (D) ran for Mayor without taking office because he withdrew his candidacy contesting fraud allegations against him It should be noted that tarborowiek township took form only after Wm Hickey pulled out his campaign originally because he knew something wasn't right about how things were going in Rutherfordton township so he made sure everything worked out perfectly before making any announcements

The town was founded in 1792 by General James Johnston and named for him. It became a central center of trade and industry in the area during the antebellum period. Tarboro experienced several skirmishes with Native Americans during its early history and was also known as a hotbed of slavery. After Reconstruction ended in 1877, Tarboro struggled to rebound as an economically active community. However, it regained some prosperity after becoming home to two major universities in the late 19th century. In recent years, however, Tarboro has been struggling with economic decline and falling residents; it currently has only about 300 residents.
The town of Tarboro was founded in 1785 by Captain James Cook and his men as a post on the Outer Banks. The town was named after General George Washington, who had approved the location. In 1800, the community was known as "Tarboro Landing." It became a thriving farming and fishing village with a population of about 100 people. In 1814, Tarboro was designated as the capital of North Carolina because it had been chosen by the General Assembly as the state's new capital following its annexation by South Carolina. The city grew rapidly due to its position at the mouth of Carteret River and its commercial opportunities. On December 12, 1838, an act to incorporate Tarboro incorporated 1,500 residents from surrounding villages including New Bern and Elizabeth City. On November 3, 1840, Governor John Catton signed an act creating the university system in North Carolina which included Tarboro College. After Confederate forces captured Fort Fisher on July 27th 1865, Tarboro could only watch from afar as battle ensued between Union forces and Confederate troops throughout what is now eastern Dare County. On October 7th 1865, following days of Preparation for Battle atsurrounded Naval Base at Beaufort when Union Admiral Halsey withdrew his fleet after learned that Wilmington would not surrender; Lieutenant Colonel William Broughton ordered all male students in attendance atTarborough College to leave for fear they would be drafted into service under Confederate forces if they stayed within civilian control
