In 1869, a sawmill was built in the town and began producing lumber for Thomasville businesses. The mill closed in 1915 but left a lasting legacy on the community; it is now home to theThomasville Historical Museum. In 1907, entrepreneur John D'Angelo started J&J Coffee Co., which became one of North Carolina's largest coffee companies. D'Angelo operated his business out of several stores throughout North Carolina until his death in 1953. His sons continue to operate J&J Coffee Co., including itsThomasville headquarters at 601 Market Street.

Thomasville is a town in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located on the Yadkin River about 30 miles east of Raleigh. The population was 10,882 at the 2010 census, making it the 9th-largest municipality in North Carolina and its second-largest city after Raleigh. Thomasville is known for its large Asbestos plant and for being home to one of the first retail stores in America, Sears & Roebuck, which opened its doors on September 15, 1913. The town was founded by two brothers who were loggers and traders during the early 1800s. One brother named John built a cabin near what is now downtown Thomasville while he traveled up and down the Yadkin River valley looking for new land to purchase. When he found nothing he started building an addition to his cabin called "John's House" which still stands today as a historic landmark next to Interstate 85 south of downtown Thomasville. This inaugural grocery store was one of very few such stores established inNorth Carolina during that time period because there wasn't yet enough transportation available or space available to build them outside of larger cities like Raleigh or Durham. Shortly thereafter another brother named Hiram bought John's house from him and began trading goods with local farmers along the riverbank where he had built his cabin earlier. Hiram's Trading Post operated from 1824 until 1865 when it burned down due to flooding from swollen rivers caused by heavy rains upstream. The site where Hiram's Trading Post used to stand today is now occupied by Gaston County Technical College; however part of the original building still stands as a museum displaying artifacts related to early technology in North Carolina including tools made from metal taken from abandoned mines around this area! In 1871 Hiram's nephew William Akeley purchased his uncle's business interest in Gaston CountyTCD so that Akeley could continue trading goods along the Yadkin River without having to leave his family residence in Gaston CountyTCD which at that time consisted only of four buildings - all belonging to relatives! Around this time also another nephew named James Burchfield joined Hiram at TCD and became involved with marketing products such as coal, lumber and soybeans throughout central NC including areas near Charlotte & Asheville!. It wasn’t until 1916 when James Burchfield (Jr.) organized what would become known as Thomasville Cotton Mills Ltd., based out of TCD with help from some investors who pooled their money they had collected during World War I! This new company manufactured sheets, cotton twill fabric and other types of fabric products utilized by manufacturers across America including Sears & Roebuck who were then located just north adjacent in Cary! With these new capabilitiesThomasville quickly grew into one of America’s leading textile towns becoming self-sufficient within five years providing much needed revenue for municipal services like lighting streetlights, paving streets etc... . By 1940 over 60% of all textiles produced insideNorth Carolina were exported!! What followed during World War II was an amazing turnaround for both Thomasville Cotton Mills Ltd./ThomasVILLE COATING COMPANY LTD./and American Textile Center Inc./ARKANSAS TEXTILES INC.. These companies went through many changes but ultimately emerged victorious due largely to their industry-leading innovations such as airtight canning devices which allowed themto produce high quality canned textiles even under very unfavorable conditions!! In 1957 portionsof TCD collapsed following a tornado strike resulting in losses totaling $2 million dollarsUSD! However little did anyone know at that time how close these companies actually cameliby/collapse/restructuring could have been had not State Highway 190 been constructed directly adjacentto TCD reducing traffic congestion resultantfrom concurrent manufacturing operations!!! Other major success stories associated with these businesses include locating their corporate headquarters within walking distanceof each other – no longer do employees live more than 20 miles apart!!!!Today both firms remain wildly successful thanks primarily theretofore unseen competitive advantages enjoyed by their respective markets!!!!!
