The history of the Waynesville Shooter Gift Shop begins with a man named Harry who opened the shop in 1936. The shop was known for giving away firearms and ammo, as well as selling clothing and other related items. In 1971, Harry's son, Rick, took over the business and continued to provide services to customers.Rick's son, Glen, became owner of the store in 1984. Glen decided to change the name of the store to Waynesville Shooter Gifts after he purchased it from his father. The store continued to be run by family members until 2006 when Rick's widow sold it to their son, Colby. Colby changed the name back to Waynesville Shooter Gifts in 2013. In 2017, Colby passed away and his son (now owner) Brandon took over running the store again. nowadays, Brandon is also an employee at Turner Broadcasting System Regional Television Station WCNC-TV in Charlotte Today's shooter gift history is based on multiple generations of family members who have been running Waynesville Shooter Gifts since 1936. Each generation has brought new life into the shop and kept its focus on providing affordable firearms and ammunition available for civilians and law enforcement alike. One man who aided the Confederates was Curly Earle, an African Americansmith. He donated rifles, shotguns, ammunition and other items to the rebels.
Waynesville is a small town in McDowell County, North Carolina. The population was 1,703 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Biltmore metropolitan area. Waynesville was founded in 1837 by Colonel John Sayers and his family. The town has been enlarged several times since then, most notably in the 1920s when it grew from just under 100 people to over 1,000. Waynesville is located on a bend in the Little River and its name derived from an Indian word meaning "headwaters of the Little River". The first European to visit Waynesville was Captain James Cook who landed there on November 12, 1779 during his third voyage of exploration along the North American coast. He named this location "Watauga" after a Shawnee village he had encountered some weeks earlier at Fort Pitt on the Ohio River. In 1837, Colonel John Sayers erected a log cabin near what is now Main Street in Waynesville as his home base for exploring this new land which he called Cherokee Land Ranch. A few years later, he built another cabin east of present-day First Avenue and renamed it White Sulphur Springs because sulphur Creek ran through its boundaries. In 1881, Daniel Boone arrived here with his band of white settlers seeking to establish a permanent settlement for themselves on lands that were soon claimed by both Cherokee Nation and Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). What would become Waynesville began as one small house on First Avenue – later known as Appalachian Road – surrounded by forestland that today formsWhitesulphur Springs Park . After many failed attempts to purchase or build homes here due to lack of money or interest from potential residents, Daniel Boone's group finally succeeded in establishing their homestead at what is now Main Street and Avenue E in 1887 with assistance from General Nathan Bedford Forrest . This marks one of only two instances where Native Americans have played an active role within early settler communities in Appalachia ; the other being Waco , Texas . On July 10th 1921 construction began on what would become Waynesville's first modern schoolhouse which opened its doors September 8th 1922 ! With increasing population growth throughout McDowell County and adjacent counties following World War I , local officials decided it was time for waynevilians to have their own school system so that youngsters could attend classes without having to travel far away each day! The current elementary school building (now occupied by Appalachian Elementary School) dates back to 1928 when primary/elementary students were transferred from nearby Eagleton Primary School . In 1952 , Drayton Middle School moved into its current building across Main Street from Appalachian Elementary School . We are blessed every day with children coming into our classrooms ready for 4 periods per day !! In addition thereto we have 3 playgrounds totaling 3600 square feet !! One can never be too grateful for all these wonderful resources !! It was named for General Andrew Jackson who had been governor of Tennessee before he became President of the United States. In 1932, Waynesville became known as the capital of North Carolina when it became the state's first city government. As Raleigh grew larger and more popular, so did Waynesville until finally it disappeared from history in 1978 when it was merged into Raleigh proper.
