The United States Army Garrison Weddington was established in 1795 and became an infantry regiment on October 1, 1802. It was redesignated as the 2nd Infantry Regiment on November 3, 1862. The regiment was consolidated with the 5th Infantry Regiment on September 15, 1865.
Weddington, North Carolina is a town in Haywood County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Weddington is part of the Asheville metropolitan area. Weddington began as an Indian village on Catawba River about two miles west of present-day Weddington. It was called "Sneedoway" by the Cherokee and "Weddington" by the pioneers. In 1863, when General Sherman's army passed through Haywood County on its withdrawal from Chattanooga to go southward, Weddington became one of his resting places. In 1865 it became a postoffice with John A. Vacca as first postmaster; it continued so until 1887. The first store in Weddington was built by Jno Hogg in 1876 and operated for three years until moved to what is now Green Gables Road and First Baptist Church which later became known as The Olde World Reformed Church (now All Saints Episcopal). John A Vacca opened a second store at 226 Main Street in 1893 which lasted until 1906 when he sold it to C W Lightfoot who operationally operated it until 1959 when it burned down and never reopened again after that date. In 1902 Dr Harry Ladd established experimental farming practices near present day Weddington under the name "Ladd's Experiment Station". After experimenting with various crops and soils there he developed a new system of irrigated agriculture which has been successful ever since - still being practiced today! A hotel named The Granite Palace was built on Tuebington Road in 1907 by Mrs Addie Mae Halliday who also ran the restaurant next door at that time called 'The Crystal Palace'. It burned down but traces remain of both buildings today including foundations for a concrete garage now used as data storage for NC State University students! In 1916 Mr Fenton Fryer located a small sawmill on Moncrief Creek east of town which he started operations from; this mill continued production into the 1970s producing lumber for many local homes including those built by Mrs Betty MacKean during her tenure as Mayor from 1967-1979! Mrs MacKean also donated land adjacent to her home (now known as Fryer Park) where park benches are now placed today thanks largely to Ms Betty MacKean herself! In 1925 James Mudd founded Appalachia Radio Corporation here with studios located upstairs in their current building opposite Stoneman Memorial Hospital north side street just south of Courthouse Square

Weddington is a town in Franklin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. Weddington is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Weddington was James Williamson, who arrived in 1792. He founded a log cabin on the banks of the Yadkin River. Williamson's log cabin still stands and can be visited by visitors today. The town began as a small community named "Weddington" on November 15, 1810 when three men from Scotland named John Cameron, Alexander Irvine and William Reid built a trading post known as "Cameron's Mill." They operated it for five years before moving to their current location in 1814. In 1824, George Catlett founded Catlett's Store which became one of the most important commercial centers in central Franklin County. In 1830, he married Maria Losey and they started raising cattle and pigs near present-day Weddington/Lenoir City Limits. Mrs. Catlett also opened her own general store which continued to be an important business center for many years until it closed its doors in 1978. In 1865, David Dellinger (1820-1900) arrived from Pennsylvania with his family and set up land north of present day Weddington on which he erected a cotton gin and several other mills that continue to operate to this day including Dellinger Cotton Mills Incorporated., located just south of town off Old Hickory Road between Lenoir City Limits and Weddington Village limits; Dellinger Lumber Company; Dellinger Paper Products; White’sdrugstore; Mattie Cook’s Restaurant & Lounge; Frye’s Hardware School Supply Co.; Golden Triangle Baptist Church (First Baptist Church); First Southern Methodist Episcopal Church;; Highland Park Cemetery (); Bethesda Lutheran Cemetery (); Catlett Bros., Auctioneers ; Mr./Mrs./Gus Claiborne “Gus” Gubbins (1925-present), landslide survivor Apostle Craig Kappstall - Pastor at Highland Park Cemetery since 1984 A hard working man with deep religious convictions who often spoke out against some local practices not approved by others A significant force behind keeping tight control overWeddington during prohibition Era
Weddington was founded in 1792 by Captain John Weddington and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for Sarah's father, who had died in 1789. The first store opened in 1807. In 1830, the first school was built. In 1840, the first post office opened. The town became a city in 1903 and adopted its present name on November 3 of that year.
