The United States Air Force, or USAF for short, has been a part of America since its inception in 1947. The USAF is the aerial combat arm of the United States Armed Forces and it is responsible for conducting air warfare and providing support to ground forces. The USAF traces its roots back to World War I when the US military established an air service to supplement Army aviation. In addition, the USAAF played a major role in the Korean War by providing aerial cover for ground forces as they fought against North Korea. After World War II, the USAF underwent multiple reorganizations and expansions, becoming one of the most powerful militaries on Earth by the end of the Cold War. In 1946, Congress passed legislation establishing RAFUSA (the United States Air Forces in Europe), which became operational 6 months later under command of Major General Curtis LeMay. RAFUSA was tasked with supporting NATO operations in central Europe and functioned as a single entity within American military policy until 1964 when it wassplit into two commands – Tactical Air Command (TAC) and Operation Neptune’s Spear (OPS). Since its establishment, Airlift Command has been oneofthe forefront organizations within USAF command structure. Airlift Command oversees all transportation assets employed by American armed forces worldwide- from heavy bombers to presidential transports- making it one ofthe busiest commandos on earth. As such, Airlift Command plays an important roleinprovidingaccesstovarious Locationsandlocationsforunitsandofficersduringoperations overseasandsupportingday-long missions across multiple theatresofwar. The Wilmington Air Force Base gift history began in 1945 with the donation of a Boeing P-47 Thunderbolt to the military. The base was later renamed North Carolina's Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and the Boeing P-47 Thunderbolt became one of the first jets on display at the airbase. In 1951, a McDonnell Douglas F4U Corsair was donated to the base and it quickly became one of the most popular jets on display at North Carolina's Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1978, another McDonnell Douglas F4U Corsair was donated to the airbase and it became one of only a handful of planes that could fly in formation at North Carolina's Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1990, an Lockheed L-1011 Starliner aircraft was donated to North Carolina's Wright Patterson AFB and it quickly became one of the most popular planes on display at The Wrightspatters AFB. In 2006, a Boeing 737-800was donated to Wilmington AFB and it quickly become one of Delaware's most popular planes on display.
Wilmington is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina and the county seat of New Hanover County. The population was 1,864 at the 2010 census. Wilmington is one of the most economically important cities in the Tar Heel State, with a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of $13 billion in 2014. It was founded by English colonists in 1729 as a port on the banks of the Cape Fear River, and became an important commercial center during North Carolina's Plantation Era. In 1819, Wilmington became part of Episcopalism's new commonwealth of North Carolina amid growing tensions between slaveholders and their slaves. In 1861, following Confederate General Robert E Lee's successful invasion of northern Virginia, Wilmington joined Confederate South Carolina as its capital City; it remained so until 1865 when it reverted to Union control under President Abraham Lincoln after the Battle of Gettysburg. The economy has grown since then, with heavy industry including trucking and manufacturing becoming more prevalent since World War II brought about increased demand for goods exported from Wilmington to other parts of America and abroad. The city has seen construction projects such as Interstate 95 (I-95), which connect it to Raleigh–Durham through I-85 south and east; The Port Royal Bridge connecting Wilmington to Duke University; and expansions into neighboring counties such as New Hanover County without losing its downtown character or importance as an economic center. In 2016, Forbes named Wilmington "the most liveable city in America". Wilmington was first settled by English colonists who arrived in 1729 along what is now known as Cape Fear Riverbank near present day downtown Wilmington Beach on Outer Banks Island off Durham’s coast. The town grew quickly due to its location on navigable waterwayside land that allowed easy trade with surrounding colonies while also providing access to whaleboats carrying timber across Narragansett Bay from Maine to sell at high prices back home in England. By 1739 there were over 100 residents living within five miles (8 km) radius around what would become downtown which included present day Elizabeth Street NW & Meeting House Alley NW today’s Broadwalk & New Market Streets NW today’s Tryon Street NE & High St or Brunswick Avenue NE today’s Anson Street NNE modern day Middlebrook Road SW
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving gifts to others. Gifts have been a part of USAF culture for centuries, and the gift-giving tradition has become an important part of USAF life. In World War II, theAAF gave away more than 2 million items, including clothing, food, cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products. TheAAF also donated airmen’s uniforms and equipment to allied forces. In 1947, the FAA established the USAF Military Gift Program to give away military surplus items from private companies. From 1950-1951 the USAF donated over 1 million pieces of equipment to various agencies in order to support war efforts. During the Vietnam War there was much criticism levied against the USAF for their involvement in that conflict. However, many members of Congress spoke out in support of the USAF and they continued to donate goods and services until 1975 when President Gerald Ford ended US participation in that conflict. Today, it is still common for members of the USAF to offer gifts during special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. It is also common for members of the USAFto give backpacks or other small items as thank you gifts after a service or project has been completed.
