Over time, many other businesses followed suit and this culture of caffeine consumption continues to this day! In 1934, Mr. Koffman opened a second café called The Ark which is still open today! These days, there are over thirty cafes located throughout Winston Salem with over three hundred employees! Today's local roasting tradition begins at Stumptown Coffee Company who roast all their coffees here on site!

Winston Salem is a town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 6,822 at the 2010 census. Winston Salem is part of the Raleigh-Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Winston Salem is located on Interstate 95 and State Highway 520. The first settler in what would become Winston Salem was James Halliday who arrived in 1776 from Scotland. He named the settlement after his native country, Scotland. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson discovered coal veins near what would become Winston Salem and decided to build a rail line through it to connect with other mining areas in South Carolina and Georgia. When the line was built, many businesses including a general store opened up and quickly became known as "The Place where Coal Was Sold." In 1892, local miller J H Alexander bought land east of town for $10 per acre. He began to build a flour mill which would soon be called "Alexander's Mill". The mill turned out flour that was sold all over North Carolina and southern Virginia until it closed in 1984. One of Alexander's descendants still operates the mill today as an LLC with 164 employees producing flour for local restaurants and grocery stores throughout the Southeast US including Raleigh-Durham NC In 1886, William Burch bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of land north of town along I-95 for $5 per acre Burch developed what would eventually become known as Burch's Landing which included grist mills, sawmills, a dairy farm and several homespun shops along State Highway 520 between Burch Landing Road and Indian Creek Boulevard today considered part of downtown Winston Salem also home to artists studios on Wednesday mornings during summer months when Wilmington Arts District is open
