It is bordered by Fargo to the north, Sioux City to the south and east, and Bismarck to the west. The town was founded in 1881 by Danish settlers. Today’s Minot began as a small farming community with only five familiesesteads scattered around what is now downtown. By 1907 it had become a thriving center for grain production thanks to its location along Missouri River gravel roads that made transportation easy and allowed delivery directly to marketplaces all across North Dakota Territory.
