One of the earliest shooters in Avon was George P. Hodges who opened a gun store in 1876. In 1896, Wm. Henson bought Hodges' business and continued to operate it until his death in 1936. The next owner, John A. Dolan, operated the store for ten years before selling it to James Fenton in 1944. Fenton continued to operate the store until its closure in 1961. From 1961-1973, the store was operated by Harry Jacobs who also ran a pawnshop on site at one time. On July 1, 1973, Jacobs sold his share of the business to Don Kappenberger and Ben Loesch who also owned a bowling alley on site at that time. After four years of operation, Kappenberger sold the business to Leo Bausermann who reopened it as Shooter's Inn on October 5th, 1975 which lasted until 1984 when it closed again due to financial problems. The last shooter's inn openings were located in Dayton (1978) and Portsmouth (1980). After Shooter's Inn closed its doors for good there was a hiatus in shooting gift history for about twenty years or so before another shop opened up near Avon called G&G Shooting Gallery which operated from 1985-1996 with some slight variations from year-to-year such as having different ownerships or not being within town limits but still providing an opportunity for residents ofAvon and surrounding towns to buy and sell firearms together during this period of time known as "Gun Week." However, even though G&G Shooting Gallery was successful at offering something new and fresh into the market place compared to other similar shops around town their popularity soon faded away because they did not offer anything that differentiated them from other retailers while also poorly managing their finances which led eventually to them closing down after just three seasons due to lack of profitability; however this event is usually cited as one reason why Avon lost out on many opportunities over the past few decades when it comes to becoming an internationally recognized center for firearm enthusiasts despite possessing some well managed businesses like Shooter's Inn which helped make that possible!

In 1915, Avon was named one of America's " ten most significant cities." During World War II, Avon played an important role in the production of munitions for the war effort. Many aviators from nearby Akron were recruited into military service and were based atAvon Airport until they were called up for military service in 1943. The town also experienced some notable events during World War II such as when Nazi Germany bombed Avon on July 6, 1945; when Japanese forces burned down part of downtown; or when President Franklin D Roosevelt delivered his speech fromavonsite on December 7, 1944 about how America would fight against Fascism worldwide. In recent years,Avon has seen strong growth thanks to its proximity to both Cleveland and Buffalo City Limits expansion projects which have brought new businesses and jobs to the area. The population ofAvon is currently estimated at over 12,000 people which makes it one of Ohio's most populous towns
Avon was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Avon, a Revolutionary War veteran and merchant. The town grew quickly, and by 1830 it had a population of 1,000 people. In 1846, Avon became the capital of the new Ohio Territory. The city experienced rapid growth during the 1850s and 1860s; by 1870, it had more than 6,000 residents. In 1863, Avon was renamed Dayton after President Andrew Johnson's unsuccessful attempt to make Ohio an all-male state. As part of the Union Restoration Movement in 1865,Avon seceded from Ohio and joined the Confederate States of America. The city lost its status as a capital after the end of World War II; it reverted to its original name in 1951.
