The Cuyahoga Falls Army Ammunition Plant is one of the earliest American military arsenals. It was established in 1897 as the Cincinnati Armory and soon became a center for ammunition production. The plant produced weapons such as artillery, rifles and shotguns, among other items. In 1915, the armament factory was renamed the Cuyahoga Falls Army Ammunition Plant and began producing munitions for World War I. During World War II, the Cuyahoga Falls plant played an important role in supplying munitions to both the United States and Great Britain. The plant closed in 1945 but its legacy lives on in the form of several commemorative medals, including one honoring soldier John Fetterman who helped preserve munitions at the facility during World War II.

The name "Cleveland" (from Huron ciyahogha meaning "the place where I am," which may have been derived from Hopewell Quaker settlement near present-day Cleveland) was chosen by General George Washington during his tour of western Pennsylvania in 1780 as the site for a new capital for Philadelphia – but Washington preferred Springdale because that location had been used by Native Americans for centuries before Philadelphia became a colonial capital. In 1796, James Kapp founded Kapp & Company Mercantile Exchange on Main Street east of Market Square; this company become one of the leading exchange firms in America during its time. That same year, John Stone built Stone Office Buildings at Superior and Euclid Streets; these buildings are still standing today and are used as office space. stone erected them without assistance from local carpenters or Joinerymen... [Stone] accomplished this unassisted because he knew many highly skilled men did not exist within ten miles of Cleveland at that time to help him build such large structures...Many other important pioneers followed suit throughout the 1800s including: David Derry (1799-1864), Solomon Hubbard (1805-1868), Amos Kendall (1807-1875), Ebenezer Morse (1793-1879), Reuben Halleck (1794-1858), Lemuel Halleck (1795-1860) and others who helped make Cleveland what it is today. Flooding destroyed most downtown businesses between 1892 and 1896; however some reopened following relief efforts led by Mayor Abram Hewitt; this period is often called "The Great Flood". AEV soon rebuilt much business damage but lost much customers due to prohibitionism caused by prohibitionist Governor Frank Norris; AEV regained most customers post prohibition but faced competition from breweries opened up during World War II A major fire struck Brownsville Road bridge over Cuyahoga River on November 5th 1910 doing extensive damage across both lanes causing mass transportation interruption for days until insurance could be arranged On May 25th 1912 citizens raised $5200 through a public subscription to purchase 8 shares of The Cleveland Rubber Company common stock valued at $50 per share Indians Land Loan Corporation organized to buy land needed for an enlarged City Hall complex In 1916 plans were made for an expressway connecting Downtown with University Circle so traffic would be diverted away from Brownstown Rd Bridge over river
The Cuyahoga Falls area was first settled by the Lenape Native Americans in the late 17th century. In 1614, Sir George St Clair and his forces invaded the area and captured many of the Lenape people. The English colonized the area in 1692, and started to develop what is now Cuyahoga Falls into a small town. The first buildings were built in 1701 by Captain John Eliot. The town rapidly grew throughout the 18th century, with many new businesses opening up along Erie Canal. By 1800, Cuyahoga Falls had a population of around 2,000 people. However, during the American Revolution, most of Cuyahoga Falls became part of British America. After Confederation in 1867, Ohio became a state and Cuyahoga Falls became its capital city. However, it reverted back to its original name after World War II when Ohio again changed its name to Cleveland.
