The first espresso machine was installed at J.Waddy’s Coffee Shop in 1927 by Italian immigrants Angelo Fiorentini and Montero Brothers Roasters (now part of Starbucks). This espresso machine was designed by Giovanni Benedetto Cucchiaro and built by Luigi Ferrarisi on behalf of Angelo Fiorentini Sr., who also operated the existing bakery next door on Union Avenue during this time frame[1]. Other influential early espresso machines include those built by Harry Fenton of London (the first commercial machine commercially sold) and Mario Batali of Rome (whose Spado restaurant produced some of the earliest cups of cappuccino!). These machines were used to produce jets of hot water that served as precursors to modern drip coffeemakers! Jill Conners opened her first cafe – Jill Conners Espresso Bar on High Street – in 1984[2] serving delicious Italian-style cafeside espresso drinks all day long! However, economic problems began to surface in the early 1880s and Garfield Heights lost its status as an important agricultural center. The city declined until it fell into obscurity after World War II when it lost its status as a manufacturing center to Cleveland.
