Lima, Ohio is a city in the United States. The population was 793 at the 2010 census, down from 853 at the 2000 census. Lima is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would later become Lima was first inhabited by the Shawnee and Potawatomi people. The first European to visit what is now Lima was Spanish missionary Juan de la Bodega on July 5, 1539. He named it "Villagra" after his hometown of Villagra, Spain. In 1802, Englishman James Krieger founded an inn and trading post called "Krieger's Tavern". It served as a base of operations for travel up the river Scioto until 1814 when he abandoned it due to Native American resistance and navigation difficulties. In 1815, Ohio became a state and Peru became its capital; Lima therefore, Krieger's Tavern reverted to English name "Lima". A new tavern was built in 1830 by Capt. John Denton and named "Boatwright's Inn". However, this venture failed because many Boatwright's clients were not interested in sailing downriver to trade with the Indians but instead took merchandise they could have bought at home or sold at market prices along the Scioto River junction points downstream (present-day downtown Dayton). In 1836–37, Daniel Webster visited Lima while on his way to Springfield Massachusetts via Cincinnati; he noted that there were no buildings or signposts except for one Indian trading post which he believed must be located near where Main Street meets Washington Avenue today (the town square previously contained a mound used as a public building). Webster commented: A few years later another traveler passed through on his way southward from Columbus Indiana stopping only long enough to buy some supplies before continuing on his journey onward: 'I saw nothing but houses without inhabitants anywhere'. This traveller had probably come upon what would become known as “Lima” while travelling past present day downtown Dayton back in 1841.' At this time most of what exists within modern day downtown Dayton can be dated back over 100 years! In 1840 Lucius Niles immigrated from Connecticut with his family and started work clearing land for their farm just east of present day Lake Erie Boulevard/Washington Ave., northwest of what would become central business district today (Niles Road Extension runs concurrently between Niles Road east of I-675 Business Loop & Washington Ave.; US 21 followsSEW about 1/4 mile behind). As early as 1850s there already existed two churches - one Congregationalist and one Baptist - both situated southeast of downtown off State Route 3 currently occupied by Stonington Mall.) From this time forward Lima grew rapidly becoming an important commercial center with many businesses opening up including several banks such as First National Bank & Trust Company (1852), Copley Brothers Coal Merchants (1854), Riggs National Bank & Trust Company (1855), Wm Henschel House Furniture stores opened across Main Street starting around 1860 followed shortly thereafter by Jno Sims Clothing store which closed circa 1870s although some evidence suggests that Jno Sims may have been open concurrent with nearby Champion Millstream Saloon beginning around 1850) making it one of longest running continuously operating businesses in central business district today! By 1870 Lima also boasted three hotels - The Hague Hotel (now Embassy Suites hotel), The Exchange Hotel (& former Woolworths restaurant)and Brown Palace Hotel all situated next door each other on State Route 3 northwest of Market Square still extant today albeit latterly vacant apart from occasional use for storage purposes until recently when it been leased back to local government for use as office space.). One interesting note about this period is that despite having numerous successful businesses operating simultaneously throughout Downtown during this era – none surviving into current times – Downtown nonetheless experienced significant gentrification beginning sometime during late 1800s resulting in increased resident demand for high end retail services which has occurred adjacent Euclid Avenue Malls since circa 1990! Several large box stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy’s Incorporated (& adjacent Fifth Third field house)and JCPenney Incorporated moved into central business district during this time period including Kohl’s Department Stores originally established c roughly 1890 however these are no longer extant within current boundaries.) Lima, Ohio is a city in the southern part of the United States. The population was 21,695 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lima County. In 1824, when it was named "Johnstown", then part of Fayette County, Ohio, it was one of three cities in what would become Cincinnati. The other two were Miamisburg and Sandusky. The first white person to settle in Lima County was David Davenport in 1827. He built a log cabin on a small stream called Davenport's Run and named his new community after himself and his father-in-law (David Davenport). A year later he started a gristmill on the same stream and began grinding corn for sale to neighbors near him. When farmers started arriving in numbers from Indiana to trade goods with traders along the Great Lakes region, they set up stores and taverns around Lima where they could buy goods at low prices and sell them back home against cash payments or advances on future crops. In 1830 David Davenport married local girl Sophia Pease; they had four children: John, Sarah Jane, David Jr., and Pollyanna Maria." In 1840 Peru reached its peak as an agricultural center due to its location between major rivers that supplied water for irrigation systems throughout much of central Ohio—the Scioto River watershed included—and because of its natural resources including coal seams under sandstone hills located about 10 miles west of town on state Route 362 (now Interstate 75) near modern day Dayton Airport. Coal mining also began operations here during this time but production continued until about 1920 mainly through milling only with some recent efforts at gasification followed by storage as lignitecoal briquettes before closing down." "During this time [1840s], many people who had come from Indiana built homes east of town near what is now Dayton Airport while others founded businesses such as grocery stores, dry goods stores, saddlers' shops etc.. Erie Canal construction begins just north of town which increased trade with Stroudsburg area." This shift caused many farms to go bankrupt due largely to competition from mines not accessible by land routes only accessible by boat or wagon train coming downriver via Canandaigua Lake which became very shallow during these years leading transportation costs prohibitively expensive especially compared to available river access points across central Ohio making it even more difficult for farmers tryingto succeed primarily through crop production."
