At its peak, Carver Coffee Company produced over twenty thousand pounds of premium quality coffee a day. After World War II, however, production declined as demand for imported coffees decreased. However, after the launch of Starbucks in 2002, Mansfield regained its dominance as a leading node in the U.S. coffee industry. Mansfield, Ohio is a city in and the county seat of Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,865 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the edge of the town of Mentor and is bordered by Canonsburg to the east and west, as well as Highland Heights to the north. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first inhabitants in Mansfield were Native Americans: Shawnee, Delaware and Wyandot people lived there before white settlers arrived in 1795. In 1801, land grant from President George Washington made Mansfield a township with a meeting house and three lots. In 1815, it became a village with a government charter and $5 per capita tax rate. On July 1, 1825 Township status was restored when it was added to Mahoning County. The first courthouse in Mansfield was built in 1830 on North High Street (now Third Street). A new courthouse was built on State Route 7 about two miles northeast of town in 1876-77 using funds raised through an auction for that purpose. During World War II much activity took place at Mansfield Naval Shipyard on Dryden Road adjacent to what is now Veterans Affairs Medical Center; however no loss or damage resulted from this activity because war materials were kept unloaded until after hostilities ended. On June 4th 1984 local residents protesting then UAW Local 4242's refusal to join Teamsters Local 9477 walked out of their building after refusing negotiator Jeffery Kessler's offer for affiliation; they later returned inside when called out by Mayor Tom Fenton who said "This isn't about unions - this is about our right not to be represented by these people." This event helped lead to public protest against management at that time which eventually led to ratification of merger between Teamsters locals 9477 & 4242 onto one unionized entity known as American Federation of Labor-CWA Local 448 (AFSCME) effective July 1st 1984

After the war Mansfield experienced rapid growth as a shopping center; its grocery stores drew customers from all over the city. In 1978 Mansfield was renamed to honor John F Kennedy's father, Joseph P Kennedy Sr., who had recently died at age 83 years old.
