The United States Air Force (USAF) is the military aviation branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, which is headed by the Secretary of Defense. The USAF was formed on February 14, 1947 from the merger of the American Volunteer Group and World War II veterans organization, the National Guard Bureau. The USAF has served in various roles throughout its history, including during World War II as a bomber and fighter force; during and after Cold War eras as a strategic airpower; and currently as an aerial Eyes Wide Shut provider of security globally. Airforce gift history can be traced back to World War I when America's first military aviator, Charles Lindbergh, flew his first combat mission in an airplane donated by American arms manufacturer Lewis Aircraft Company. In 1919 Congress established both the USAAF and RAF to provide aerial warfare assistance to countries such as France and Belgium during World War I while also providing necessary funds for development of fighter aircraft. During World War II America's fledgling USAF was activated twice: once in 1942 as a bombardment force under General Dwight Eisenhower before being renamed Tactical Air Command (TAC) in 1945; secondly in 1946 when TAC became operational with Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers – one of which would become known as "Eleanor" following President Eleanor Roosevelt's request for an all-female bomber squadron to protect against Nazi Germany's efforts to terrorize New York City – becoming America's first nuclear-armed flying unit. Following post-war occupation Japan had no need for any additional air forces so on September 15th 1945 Emperor Showa issued Order No 1–shikoku shihō honshū that limited Japanese airspace within specific radius around Tokyo area only for emergency use only with exclusive rights for Japanese citizens within said airspace only not allowed international flights or visitors without prior permission from Japan Airlines Co., Ltd.. This order effectively ended all civilian airline activity within those geographic boundaries pending government decree or approval from Japan Airlines Co., Ltd.. This shutdown effectively eliminated all competition between airlines operating within these restricted airspace areas until 1949 when guidelines were revised permitting wider open skies operation with universal access by all commercial operators subject to government regulation excepting JAL who continued operations under new terms Agreement between JAL and Government of Japan dated November 7th 1945 allowing unrestricted service available ONLY TO JAPANESE CITIZENS WITH INDEPENDENCE NOTIFICATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND AFTER PRIOR PERMISSION FROM JAILERS COOPERATIVE LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY . These controls persisted until March 11th 1951 when regulations were promulgated establishing effective national airspace consisting of imaginary lines drawn at 30 degrees latitudenorthwest corner OF HONSHU ERA LINES created by Minister Of Commerce Akira Hashimoto extending into Pacific Ocean beyond Iseki Shima Kotsu Gulf bounded on the east by Kyushu Island Range reaching down almostto Okinawa mainland then turning northeastward along coast line Into East China Sea then continuing southeastward To South Korea International Date Line then turning northwestward back towards Tokyo area). After this definitive control over Japanese airspace came into effect foreign Aircraft could only fly over designated portions thereof using improved radio navigation equipment while other portions remained closed off permanently or temporarily depending upon weather conditions at any given time resulting in numerous dangerous encounters between Allied pilots and ground forces both friendly & enemy planes often gaining altitude advantage leading directly to shootdowns or collisions although many times accidental due primarily to poor flying technique rather than bad luck & poor navigational skills commonly associated with early postwar Aviation Although tightly controlled today much unauthorized traffic still occurs outside prescribed limits through casual cruising especially near airports many causing serious accidents/losses which have led some authorities advocate returning full regulatory control overairspace completely eliminating passenger transportation entirely however this would entail expensive redesign & rebuild program probably well beyond our financial resources at this time] During the Korean Conflict several USAF units fought extensively including attacking key targets such as Wonsan refinery where fuel supplies were vital for North Korea’s war effort; taking part in Operation Market Garden where more than 120 bombing raids were flown against German positions across Hollandfield Airbase near Arnhem; participating Escort duty aborting supply runs from bases supporting UNC troops fighting north side of Demilitarized Zone; providing support services embarked on USS Enterprise (CVN 66) throughout Desilusion campaign July 25~August 2nd 1950 escorting convoys carrying foodstuffssupplies ammunition oil etc.; making numerous amphibious landings throughout battle zone helping rescue personnel stranded ashore etc.; playing critical role in Battle Of Inchon October 16th 1950 Assaulting fortified city located just inside North Korean border claiming credit for victory therefore earning Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) plus three major commendations Dishonorable Conduct Medal Navy Cross George Washington Class “Inchon” Expeditionary Medal Army Commendation Medal Second Legion d’Honneur Lorraine Campaign Badge WWII Victory Medal] IEEE Milestones

The United States Air Force has a long and rich history in Marion, Ohio. The first American military installation in the city was Fort Armstrong, established in 1909. In 1941, the United States Army Air Forces activated Lieutenant Colonel Curtis E. LeMay's 1st Bombardment Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB to provide strategic bombardment of Japan. From 1941-1944, the wing engaged in combat against Nazi Germany and its allies during World War II. The wing served as Headquarters for Allied Expeditionary Force (HAEF) Bomber Command from December 1944 to May 1945. During World War II, the United States Air Force lost over 3,000 servicemen and women killed in action or missing in action. In 1947, Marion received its own airport when Cleveland Municipal Airport was closed by Congress after years of budget cuts which were implemented through an act of the then Ulysses S. Grant Administration known as "The Smoot-Hawley Act." On October 15th of that year, USAAF Station Akron became operational with Republic A&R Department Northrop Grumman R-6E night bombers being assigned to fly daylight bombing missions over Korea while Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters escorted them on escort missions during daylight hours throughout November and December 1947; this activity continued until February 1948 when all Superfortresses were reassigned to other duty commands due to budgetary reasons On July 12th of 1951 President Harry S Truman announced plans for General Douglas MacArthur's invasion of South Korea which would lead to the Korean War; on August 25th USAF Station Akron commenced operations providing gunfire support for USAF fighter pilots flying mission against Kim Il Sung's Chinese People's Liberation Army forces Dickinson radio relay signals from Chosin Reservoir had indicated that there was a large concentration of troops near our airfield

Marion, Ohio was first settled by the Wyandots in 1788. In 1802, the United States acquired what is now Ohio from Great Britain. The area that would become Marion was part of this new country and until 1803 it was known as Fayette County. On February 14, 1803, President James K. Polk issued a proclamation creating a new county - Miami County - in honor of General Hernando de Soto and his Expedition to Florida which had taken place two years earlier. The following year, on March 3rd, 1804, Miami County was divided into two parts by Ulysses S. Grant - one portion became Ross Township and the other portion became Marion Township. For many years Marion was considered to be an agricultural center due to its large amount of corn and soybean production. However, over the past few decades there has been a growing trend for Marion to become more popular with people looking for cultural attractions such as art galleries and wine tastings.
In 1806, Ohio became the 15th state in the United States. The area that is now Marion was part of what was thenKentucky. In 1809, a post office was established at present day Marion and named for Major General David Wilkinson. In 1830, Ohio became an independent country and Marion became its capital. The first courthouse in the town was built in 1833. The city of Marion grew up around it and attained its current population by 1860.
