The Sandusky Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. The unit was originally organized as a volunteer militia in 1881, and served in various capacities until World War I. After the war, the Guard was reorganized as an infantry regiment and served in various campaigns within the Spanish-American War and World War II. In 1952, the Guard became an artillery regiment and played a significant role during Operation Desert Storm. The unit also served in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2009-2013. Throughout its history, the Sandusky Army National Guard has been known for its high standards of performance and dedication to duty. This is especially evident in terms of military readiness and morale. It is estimated that over 50% of all Guards members have deployed to some form of combat abroad. Gifts from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York were common during this time and continue to be so today. From 1802 until 1933, the United States government donated land to be used as a military academy. The first class of cadets graduated from West Point on December 5, 1802. Since then, army gifts have been a regular feature at the academy. In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson issued an executive order directing all U.S. military installations worldwide to give preference to students from Ohio Valley universities in awarding scholarships and other benefits for enlisted members of the U.S. Army stationed there. In 1919, General John J Pershing ordered that each regiment receive one rifle per infantry battalion and one machine gun per artillery battery (this order was not fully implemented until after World War II). Additionally, each regiment was allocated 10 pistols and 1 case of revolver ammunition per year (these orders continued into the Cold War). Today, there are over 2 million soldiers stationed around the world in over 190 countries with an estimated $365 billion spent on soldier/veteran programs every year alone!

Sandusky was founded in 1799 by John Sandusky and his family. Colonel James K. Polk donated a cannon to augment the forces in Cuba during World War I while General Pershing gave a jeep to each regiment in his command during World War II. It is interesting to note that even after more than two centuries of gifts by individuals or organizations there are still many unmarked gift cases scattered around Soldier accommodations throughout America’s military installations that hold items such as hats or other personal belongings from previous generations of service members who have left no written record about their donations or experiences with the U.S. Army

Sandusky is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Holmes County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,439. It is the easternmost municipality in Greater Cleveland and is bordered by Youngstown to the east, Akron to the north, Cuyahoga Falls to the west and Medina to the south. The Sandusky area has been inhabited for over 10,000 years and was first settled by Native Americans in what is now Holmes County. The first European explorers who discovered these parts were Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1542 and John Mandelbaum in 1614-1615. In 1821, James Kowalewski patented a land grant that included portions of Sandusky Township including today's town square. The town was incorporated on April 14, 1827 as part of Act No. 4 of that year which created Holmes County after it was ceded from Wayne County by General Anthony Wayne during his tenure as governor of Ohio (1820-24). The county courthouse located on Main Street within present day Sandusky limits served as its government until 1830 when it moved to Youngstown where it still stands today. On July 1, 1850, voided Indian Removal legislation led to more than 50% white settlement within Sandusky township with just 12 Indians remaining from an original band estimated at 100+ individuals – making up about one half of all those living in Sandusky at that time! In 1870-71 construction began on what would become Union Mills according to plans prepared by local engineer George Stephenson – one of several large industrial projects undertaken throughout central Ohio during this period powered primarily by steel production methods pioneered by Hungarian immigrant George Siemens & Company – both men later becoming household names for their work in this region including Stephenson himself who became known nationally for designing New York City's Madison Square Garden but also developing locomotives for many miles beyond! Union Mills would eventually produce nearly 2 million pounds (1 metric ton) worth of steel each year beginning in 1901 alone before being closed down due mainly to World War I wartime shortages however some remnants remain today including a small museum situated inside former mill buildings adjacent towards modern day Mahoning Avenue! Today there are only a few remaining businesses associated with Steelmaking particularly around downtown which enjoys significant tourist traffic annually thanks largely to visits from enthusiasts attending various exhibits related thereto like "An American Iron Age Village" exhibiting artifacts dating back 500 BC through early 1800 AD housed inside appropriately styled brick building atop hill overlooking downtown; "Make America Great Again"themed exhibit featuring restored WWII era military vehicles alongside reconstructed barracks/bunkers used contemporaneously thereabouts near thereof; numerous grinders & dielectric converters manufacturing wood products hereabouts etc.; among others...the latter enjoying significant redevelopment efforts underway features high quality artist studios/working spaces available now accompanying active retail precincts surrounding them...just across Mahoning Avenue from now defunct coke Bottling plant site currently undergoing major restoration/amalgamation project between local community groupatively funding effort & energy company formerly owning property adjacent thereto - all indicative yet ongoing signsifier progressive growth (& change) taking place hereabouts!
