The United States Air Force deployed gift history in Streetsboro, Ohio on Dec. 12, 1944 as part of World War II. The gift history event was the first time that the United States Air Force had stationed a unit in downtown Streetsboro. The event was attended by members of the community and local businesses. The idea for the gift history event originated with Captain Harry Pritchard, commander of Fifth Air Force at RAF Bentwaters in England. Captain Pritchard wanted to thank local residents for their support during World War II. He decided that a special commemoration would be appropriate to recognize the contributions of the citizens of Streetsboro. Captain Pritchard gathered together a small group of aviation professionals and commanders from throughout America to create an air force detachment in downtown Streetsboro. At this initial ceremony, Mayor John Wessels presented Captains Pritchard and Dudley Welles with a plaque recognizing their service to the city during World War II. During this inaugural event, Mayor Wessels also opened City Hall which served as the detachment's headquarters until 1947 when it moved into its new location at 426 Elm Street. In 1945, Captains Pritchard and Welles were given command of First Tactical Bombardment Group (later redesignated Eighth Bomber Command) based at RAF Groovedale in North Yorkshire England which flew strategic bombers over Europe during World War II providing important air support for Allied forces against Nazi Germany including Operation Overlord . After reaching operational status with Eighth Bomber Command on Aug 15 1945 they were reassigned to Ninth Tactical Bombardment Wing (later redesignated Twelfth Fighter Wing). This wing was responsible for conducting operations against Japanese targets within Japan following surrender negotiations on Aug 14 1945 resulting in unconditional surrender by Japanese Emperor Hirohito . On Jan 1 1946 Captains Pritchard and Welles relinquished command of Tenth Tactical Bombardment Group (later redesignated Fifteenth Fighter Wing) located at Seymour Johnson AFB Georgia effective date only one month prior due To retirement! In 1946 Majors Beeson, Boyle & Kappenheimer assumed command while Air Vice Marshal Hogg took temporarycommand until replacement could be found

Streetsboro is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1803, James Fenton established a small community on the Scioto River in what is now Streetsboro. This community was named for George Washington Street (now US 7), which ran through it. In 1814, when Stark County was formed from parts of Butler and Summit counties, Streetsboro became part of that county. The first post office in Streetsboro was opened in 1817. The name of the town changed to its current form on November 4, 1836 when it amalgamated with neighboring townships to become one municipality. On July 6, 1907, Streetsboro became one of the municipalities within the new city of Canton. The annexation caused some financial problems for Streetsboro since many residents had left to join Canton while their homes were taken over by the new municipality and their land values decreased slightly but overall they enjoyed an increase in property tax revenue due to more people living thereinstead of driving around looking for properties they could buy or rent locally). On January 1, 1973, most of Canton merged with Cleveland into one larger city and as a result Dropsville Township also merged into Canton proper along with several other villages including Marietta and Huber Heights within that process. For all practical purposes however Streetsboro continued to be an independent township until its abolishment effective June 30th 2009 under Cuyahoga County Ordinance No 9-2009 Today streetsboro holds pride as home to some very proud Quaker families who still live here today despite moving out long ago thanksgiving day 2008
