Ardmore is a small town in central Oklahoma, United States. It was founded in 1907 by John Ardmore and his wife Nancy. The population of Ardmore peaked at 9,000 in 1925, but has since declined to around 6,000. The population of the town today is only 1,100. Ardmore is located on the northeast bank of the Arkansas River near its confluence with the Canadian River. It is bordered by Tulsa to the west, Jenks to the east, and Muskogee to the north. The town was named for John Ardmore's father-in-law Samuel Wurtzett who had settled in what is now Ardmore in 1881. The first store opened in 1907 and soon there were several others along the riverbank. In 1925 there were just over 10 businesses located in ArdMORE; however by 1990 only six remained including one restaurant and two gas stations which closed down during prohibition. Today there are just two residences left standing: One dating back to 1911 and another built in 1949. The downtown area of ArdMORE once contained several large buildings as well as an opera house/theater complex which was destroyed during World War II but still stands as a reminder of how important this community was during that time period before it went into decline.
In 1990 when oil production began operations nearby at Edmondson Fields (now Anadarko Petroleum) many people moving out of their homes started packing up their belongings and leaving behind those beloved Rust Belt towns like Terre Haute Indiana residents such as Harry Smith who packed up his entire furniture collection2

This was given to Commodore George Dewey in 1881 as a congratulatory gift. In 1907, Admiral John J. Pershing presented Rear Admiral Augustus Ewing with a bottle of sherry as an appreciation for his work leading the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. In 1941, Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz received a leather holster from Senator Joseph McCarthy as part of his Naval Service Awards program. In 1951, Rear Admiral John Wadleigh presented Vice President Harry S Truman with a keyring containing three naval flags and medals from the Pacific Fleet flagship USS Missouri (BB-38). The following year, Rear Admiral David Roper received four gifts: two books on naval history and one telescope from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida; four Marine Corps field rifles from Marine Barracks Quantico; and four coffee mugs made by Navy Yard Cafeteria employees in honor of their commanders. These gifts are considered to be among the most notable naval gifts ever given to civilians.
