Ardmore, Oklahoma is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ardmore is located on the east side of Haskell County and north of Muskogee. The first permanent settler in Ardmore was Wm. Hargrave in 1875. A post office called Ardmore was established in 1887, and remained in operation until 1907. The town was named after Arthur Murchison Ardmore, an American lawyer and politician who served as a U.S. Senator from Oklahoma from 1907 to 1912 and as Secretary of War from 1913 to 1916 under Woodrow Wilson's administration. The first school in ArdMORE opened in 1902 on South Main Street. The present school building was built between 1914-1916 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). In 1932, the community erected its first water tower which still stands today (). In 1957, when Haskell County became full fiscal county government with its own taxing authority, ArdMORE officially became one of “the eight” towns within that new agency – a designation it maintain to this day (). On July 1st 1959, Wichita Falls became the next city incorporated into Haskell County; however because Wichita Falls had no schools or other municipal services available to its citizens before that date they were annexation into ArDMORE via School District No 8 administrative order dated November 3rd 1958 (see below). As such ArDMORE would continue serving as both a municipal seat and as an annexation point for Wichita Falls throughout their entire transition period without any interruption to services provided thereto (i.e.,Until 1971 when residents voted not to annex onto ArDMORE due to concerns about possible reductions in services being provided if/when Wichita Falls annexed themselves). It should be noted that although there are now over 100 years since the original land grantees arrived at what is now ArdMORE; many aspects of daily life remain much the same including high school graduation rates continuing above 90% for most students dating back to those early days while some nostalgic memories may exist among current inhabitants about variousCommunity Events which took place long ago but are still remembered fondly (& sometimes even recreated) like Community Market days & fall festivals etc.; these have been mostly replaced by newer events or traditions more likely attributable to social media marketing nowadays!
