Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town located in the US state of Oklahoma. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee County, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bixby was founded in 1902 and named for George Washington Bixby, an early settler. Bixby is home to Central High School which serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. There are also severalelementary schools within walking distance of Central High School as well as a number of middle/junior high schools that serve students between 5th and 8th grades. Bixby's only college-level school is Northwest State University which offers degree programs in business administration, engineering, health sciences and law. The city has two churches: First Baptist Church and United Methodist Church (built 1892). These two churches are both important to the community because they provide services such as food pantry donations and social work opportunities to residents who cannot attend larger churches due to lack of space or financial resources. Additionally, First Baptist Church provides leadership training for local pastors while United MethodistChurch provides education opportunities for children in area schools including arts/ crafts classes, parenting classes and Bible study groups for first time parents with children aged 6–12 years old.

Bixby is a small town in Osage County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 681 at the 2000 census. It was named for General James Bixby, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Oklahoma. The town was founded by Methodist Episcopal missionaries in 1907. The first post office opened in 1909. The name of the town changed to Bixby in 1915 after it was moved from its original location on the east side of the Arkansas River to its current site on the west side of the river. In 1930, Bixby became an incorporated municipality and adopted a government bylaws that called for a Mayor/Council form of government with five members elected at-large and one member appointed by the Mayor to serve a four-year term. In 1966, Bixby incorporated as an educational community and adopted a school board form of government with nine memberselected through staggered voting similar to what is practiced today within Tulsa County schools districts In 1984, Oklahoman's " 500 Years" issue chroniclingOklahoma history featured mention of Bixby including this short article: "Moses Tilton settled hereabouts about 1855." Moses Tilton (1802-1876) was born near present day Tulsa and came overland from Tennessee via Texas when he was just 17 years old to start his own farmstead near present day Interlake Village, Oklahoma., where he built churches, schools and other infrastructure that helped make him one of OKLAHOMA'S early settlers."
Bixby was founded in 1907 by J.M. Bixby and his family. The town is named for the Bass of the same name, which live near the town's original site. In 1916, Bixby became a city and continued to grow as a center for trade and commerce. The population reached over 10,000 in 1950 when Interstate 35was created through the area.Today, Bixby is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its role as an important cultural attractions spot in central Oklahoma
