The Marine Corps has been sending Marines and their families to Enid, Oklahoma, since World War II. The town is home to the Navy's Fifth Fleet and the Marine Barracks, which serve as a support base for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The town was founded by General George Armstrong Custer in 1881 as a small farming community. By 1925, Enid had become an important naval depot for the military of Oklahoma. The city was renamed Enid on April 14, 1925 in honor of then-Governor James M. Fenton. In World War II, the Marine Barracks played an important role in supporting American forces fighting in Japan and Europe. After the war, Marines continued to play a significant role in local life; many residents served on boards or committees related to both civilian and military life. In 1974, members of the community formed what is now known as the Marine Corps Logistics Battalion 7th Regiment (Marine) after recalling fond memories of watching Marines store supplies at local lumberyards during World War II. Today, Marines are still active duty members of the United States Armed Forces and presence in Enid is an integral part of that history. Enid is a city located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 59,878 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Muskogee County and one of the fastest-growing cities in Oklahoma. It is also home to Oklahoman Air National Guard Base and the Tulsa metropolitan area, which has a population of 527,567 as of 2019. The first people to live in Enid were French Canadians who came overland from Quebec in 1836. The town was named for Miss Enid Woodruff, an American woman who married a Frenchman and went on to found what would become Tulsa (then Jenks) with him in 1881. In 1907, Enid became part of Muskogee County after it was split from Osage County. In 1957 the city council voted to name its downtown square "Oklahoma State Capitol Square." This naming decision outraged some residents because they felt that Tulsa's capitol building should have been honored instead and not their hometown's namesake square – which still bears that name today despite being renamed several times since then (most recently during the 1980s). In 1978, following passage of House Bill 2027 ( authored by Representative Don Young ), Enid became home to its own government when Muskogee County established its own government office complex on North First Street within City limits; this complex remains operational today as City Hall Annex #1. On May 3, 1984, vinyl records were first sold in Enid when Gold’s Gym opened on North First Street across from City Hall Annex #1. At that time there were no stores open at night so customers had to go out into town to buy their music until later on downmarket streets like Main Street had businesses open late such as 7-Eleven and Sheetz convenience stores which did not sell records anymore starting around 1990 due to competition from CD stores opening up around that time outside of major urban areas like Tulsa where tapes were still popular until about 2006 or 2007 according keyboardist Rick Wakeman died suddenly aged 53 leaving behind many unfinished projects including a new album/tour set for release later this year called "Dark Side Of The Moon" shows will take place at historical locations related especiallyoonitely Okemah World Fairgrounds - see below Oklahoma State Capitol Square once again becomes angry with citizens after they are denied honors for their hometown square
The Marines have been deployed in many different ways, some more memorable than others. The most famous deployment of the Marines was during World War II when they fought in the Pacific theater. Since then, they have deployments to various parts of the world including Afghanistan and Iraq. One of the most recent deployments was to Kuwait in 2018 where they took part inOperation Desert Storm. There are many marines who have served throughout their career and there is a great history behind their gift giving tradition. One of the first marines to give gifts as a way of sending positive messages was Captain John A. Kapp Jr., during World War II. He gave gifts such as radios, tools, and cigarettes to troops on combat missions. After the war, he continued this tradition by giving back to his troops with items such as T-shirts and other clothing items. In 1957, Lieutenant Colonel Clifford Berry set up a program called Good Givers for Kids which involved giving children toys and clothes from Marines stationed overseas before their return home. This program soon became known as Marine Corps Exchange Program (MCEP). MCEP has given away over 2 million items since it began in 1959. Since its inception, MCEP has had many different programs which contribute to The Marine Corps’ appreciation for community service around the globe. These programs include Service Academy Day which recognizes that marine cadets have volunteered time and energy for various charitable causes; Toys for Tots which sends donations directly to children’s charities; Caravan Days which bring together marines from all branches of service for car rides through local communities;and even major military events like Commander-in-Chief Forum or “The Great Commanding Officers Summit” where top leaders from all branches come together to discuss military issues face-to-face with civilians
