Glenpool is a small town in northeastern Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for George A. Glenpool, a rancher and banker who donated land for its establishment. Glenpool is located in eastern Payne County on the edge of the Wichita Mountains near US- 71 and OK- 43. It has an elevation of 1,600 feet (500 m). According to the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Glenpool was 97% white and 3% black or African American. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 1% of the population. The first settlers in what is now Glenpool were pioneers from Texas who arrived in 1859. They built a cabin on what would become their town site and started trading with Indians. In 1865, they founded the "Glenpool Enterprise" bank which became one of Tulsa's most successful institutions during that time period. The bank went through several changes over its years but always maintained its focus on responsible lending practices until it merged with First National Bank in 1984 to form Glenpool National Bank. Glenpool is a town in Owasso County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,293 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The Glenpool community began as a small farming village on the east side of the Arkansas River about four miles south of its present location. In 1887, J.H. Stephenson opened a general store and post office in what is now Glenpool; he named it for his father-in-law, Robert Glenpool (1786–1857), who had moved from Tennessee to Kansas City in 1854. In 1907, David Waddell donated land to make way for a market near wherepresent-day Glenpool sits. This market operated until 1918 when fire destroyed most of the business district and all evidence of trade or industry within three years thereafter. A new market building was erected in 1921 and remained in use until 1978 when it was destroyed by an arsonist while being used as a clubhouse for the local Little League team; however, no one was ever charged with this crime because no one could be found to have responsible ownership or management of that structure at that time. In 1902, Drury Lumber Company built a sawmill on the east side of the Arkansas River just north of modern day Glenpool; they named their mill after Jens Fritsch (1849–1927), who had been associated with them since their establishment in 1892 as an agricultural equipment supplier and later became manager and superintendent of operations. The mill continued production until 1963 when it closed due to lack of demand from customers and competition from more automated mills across America). According to tradition, about 1906 James Sitton founded Dixie Dairy which exported creamato cheese produced by his company from Texas through Tulsa into Mexico City for export then sold these products back into Tulsa under various names including “Dixie Cheese” before coming up with the name "Glen Pool" finally settling on "Glenpool" around 1915 based upon historic knowledge that this geographic locality supplied milk to Little Rock Brewery located there at that time which also used its name "Dixie Cheese". At some point during prohibition era drinking water supplies were also diverted away from Tulsa toward Glendora Lake resulting in an increase in fines levied against businesses along US 65/Arkansas River Road running parallel thereto called "Walking Water Alley." Consequently most businesses vacated their locations by 1933 following cutoff but some kept operating outOf State using truckloads brought over especially during winter months when water levels were low allowing many residents access Toí whisky Possessed Homes dotting tho countryside interior) even if not living inside them!
