Guymon, Oklahoma is a small town in Haskell County located on the south bank of the Arkansas River. It was founded in 1907 by Judge John D. Guymon and his wife, Anna L. Guymon. In the 1940s, the population of Guymon increased to 2,500 when it became an incorporated municipality. After years of decline in population and economic activity, the city experienced a resurgence in recent decades thanks to new development in nearby Tulsa and beyond. In 1984-1985, Guymon experienced significant growth with the opening of the Oklahoma Freeport Zone which opened up many new jobs in nearby towns like McAlester and Ada just east of Guymon on the Arkansas River
