The guns would be used by police officers and other law enforcement officials for protection until the late 1920s when they were replaced by more modern firearms. In 1935, the city passed an ordinance forbidding the private ownership of handguns without a license from the mayor or city council. This ordinance was repealed in 1938 but was reinstated in 1949 after amendments were made to the ordinance that allowed for gun purchases by individuals with special needs based on factors such as “the prevention of crime or public disorder”. Gun sales continued to occur through this period until 1958 when handgun possession became an illegal act within the city limits. In 1959, Mayor Jernigan ordered all departments within town limit themselves to just one handgun per officer and began accepting applications for handgun licenses from citizens who could provide evidence that they need not own a weapon because “of their place of work, school or religious services”. The process for obtaining a license started innocuously enough with an application form which included information such as your name, current address and contact information for your nearest state police station where you could provide additional personal information about yourself should you choose to possess a firearm outside of your home county or state borders. After providing all required information, applicants were then contacted by letter inviting them to come into town and view their pistol at one of three licensed dealerships located throughout downtown area during business hours from January 1-June 30 each year (or whenever those dealers had availability). These dealers sold pistols only to residents who met specific qualifications such as owning property within town limits and having government issued identification which verifies your residency status; however, anyone can purchase any type of firearms including rifles and shotguns at these locations without undergoing any licensing process. The program ended in 1978 due to budget cuts; however it is still reported that over 100 retired law enforcement officers still use handguns today while serving as security guards at various local businesses across Midwest City proper and portions surrounding rural areas including Edmondson County (Oklahoma)

This led to development of shopping malls throughout downtown Wichita Falls and North Olmsted, Ohio; within about 10 years Downtown had surpassed Midtown as one of Oklahoma's most important commercial districts. In recent decades, much attention has been paid to downtown's preservation as part of efforts to create a "smart"owntown that will be more efficient with energy use and conserve resources such as water usage. However, some aspects of downtown have attracted opposition from developers who see this type of development as incompatible with traditional values associated with OKC's history or culture

The Letchers were Methodists who immigrated to central Oklahoma in 1851. In 1868, they started a grocery store in downtown Midwest City and soon became known for their great produce and meat products. They also exported goods to Texas, Kansas, and other parts of the United States. The Letchers were also pioneers in the development of modern irrigation systems in central Oklahoma. Their innovations helped make Midwest City one of the most productive agricultural towns on the continent during the late 19th century.
