Moore, Oklahoma is a place that has had a lot of different people come and go over the years. The area was once known as the "Wild West". In 1881, Moore became the seat of Choctaw County. It was renamed to Moore in 1907 after J.D. Moore, who served in the United States Senate from 1907-1913 and again from 1923-1929. In 1907, there were only six residents in Moore. By 1920, it had grown to a population of over 2,000 and by 1930 it had reached 4,500. The population continued to grow until 1990 when it peaked at 8,442 people. After that point it slowly began to decline and by 2000 it had fallen below 7,000 people.
