The U.S. Air Force has been providing airmen and their families with gifts since the early days of World War II. Here are a few examples from Ashland, Oregon: In 1945, the Air National Guard Association (ANI) donated two B-17 Flying Fortress bombers to the USAF for use as replacements in RAF No. 4 Command during the war effort. The purpose of this operation was to disrupt critical production capabilities within Japan which could have led to an open-ended conflict with United States forces if not successfully suppressed. On September 3, 1948, four Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters from New Mexico Wing received equipment and supplies from Headquarters Eighth Air Force for use as Combat Crew Training School pilots in support ofOperation Windy Night I (September 8-October 15). This was one of the largest offensive air campaigns undertaken by Eighth Air Force during World War II and it saw the first serious confrontations between Allied bomber fleets versus ground forces on land since battles such as Normandy and Anzio had occurred six years earlier! The last major gift that the USAF bestowed upon its troops came in 1951 when it gifted 16 Boeing 727 jetliners to Headquarters Fifth Air Force at Dyess AFB Texas under Project Thunderbolt! The jets would serve as transports for Bomber Command operations flying out of England throughout Europe during Operation Overlord; however, these flights would become infamous due to their hazardous conditions resulting in many accidents including one fatal crash which caused extensive damage to both aircraft and personnel aboard!

The following year, the city donated $5,000 towards the purchase of an F-86E Sabre jet fighter. In 1951, the city donated another $10,000 towards purchasing a C-119H Flying Boxcar. In 1962, Ashland bestowed upon the city its first honorary street name - "Airport Boulevard". The next year saw another gift: a Learjet 45 aircraft which would serve as both a display plane and commuter airport until it been retired in 1984. In 1969, they gifted their only non-military gift: an Igloo cooler worth $2,500 which served as the home to many OAHDR exhibits over time. In 1971 they gave back their initial donation with an even larger gift: an amphibious tank vehicle worth $10,000 that could be driven on any surface or water - making it one of only two such vehicles ever given away by the military to civilians (the other being a Humvee). In 1978 they bestowed upon Ashland its second honorary street name - "Military Drive". The next year saw yet another gift: a Huey H helicopters for use as search and rescue assets during natural disasters or emergencies. These were followed up in 1980 with three more helicopter gifts; two Hueys and one Apache helicopter each. In 1983 they bestowed upon Ashland its third honorary street name - "Oregon Avenue". That same year saw them give away their final military gift: four F-15C Eagle fighter jets valued at $100 million each!
