After several years of consideration, it was decided to adopt Central Point as itsofficial name in 1828. In 1861, during American Civil War efforts to win territory for Confederate forces along the border with Oregon, Central Point's citizens supported General Ulysses S. Grant’s Union army over those of Aidan Booth’s Confederacy. With assistance from local military commanders such as Generals David Hunter and Gideon Welles, CentralPoint prospered throughout the war until Stanton’s proclamation closing most easternOregon ports led to an economic collapse which ruined many small businesses and devastated centralpoint’s infrastructure; this led to an exodus of residents beginning around 1870 which undercut community morale and destroyed social fabric One result of these circumstances was that by 1865 only one-third of central point’s population remained after more than two decades without war However despite these challenges locals continued to build places like Willamette Hall (the first university building in Oregon) and Halsey Park which still stand today When Reconstruction began following the end of World War II many people returned home including some who had leftcentral point during the war; this period marked a resurgence in cultural life characterized by art exhibitions, music festivals, dance events etc.; however due largely to pollution problems brought on by postwar growth central point spiraled into bankruptcy before finally declaring bankruptcy in 1977 Today it contains a number of renovated buildings from when it was an agricultural center housing schools for children up through college age as well as retail space for both consumers and businesses; although some businesses have closed down since then there continuesto be significant economic activity thanks largely to private donations

Hearn had been inspired to establish Central Point after his purchase of a claim in what is now The Dalles. He named his new town after himself and set up shop at his old trading post. By 1880, Central Point had become a thriving trade center with goods brought in by travelers from all over the United States. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in the early 1920s when it had a population of 1,200 people. Unfortunately, during World War II CentralPoint was again hit hard by war-related destruction and vandalism. Many businesses were destroyed or damaged, including Hearn'sown brewery which still stands today as one of the mostUrlative commercial structures in Oregon. However, despite these setbacks, Central Point continued to thrive for many years thereafter thanks to its cooperative spirit and entrepreneurial flair. In the late 1980s CentralPoint passed into private ownership but has since experienced another major rebirth as an educational center serving both local residentsand out-of-town visitors alike.
