The Eugene Coast Guard Auxiliary (ECGA) was chartered on November 3, 1916 and the first officers were sworn in on December 1st. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization which provides support to the Eugene Police Department, City of Eugene Municipal Services, and other local agencies. The Coast Guard Auxiliary has many different types of gift items available for purchase or donation. Some of these items include uniforms, caps, mugs, phones and more. In 2018 alone, they conducted over fifty inspections! The first European to visit what is now Eugene was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 on his way from Mexico City to Manila vialanding at San Francisco Bay. He named this area "Eugene" after his friend John Eliot who had been with him on that journey. A local Indian tribe, The Wiyot Tribe, had been living here for centuries before white settlers arrived. In 1821 they ceded their land to the United States when they were forced out by gold rushes in California and Nevada; however, they continued to refer to their settlement as "Eugene." In 1847–48 Brigham Young led an Mormon Battalion through central Oregon during the Utah War against forces loyal to Ulysses S Grant; he called this territory "the Great West". At its peak there were 10 settlements scattered throughout eastern butte country including Eugene, Willamette River bank towns bedrock communities founded by early Mormon pioneers: Corvallis (1849), Lebanon (1850), Albany (1851), North Bend (1901) and Scappoose (1902). These core communities formed what we know as Eugene Township and portions of Butte County today. Many notable pioneers lived near these original settlements including James Kappler Sr., founder of Kappler & Co.; Fanny Wright Arnells wife; Royall Gifford storekeeper; Hyrum Smith captain of militia unit defending Lewiston from Grant's forces on November 11th 1872 During World War II much activity took place at nearby Naval Air Station Salemburg where many Navy veterans set up homes while training pilots for America’s entry into World War II dry goods merchant Alfred Waddell moved his family from rural Ohio Valley town Xenia in 1907 when he discovered large quantities of nitrates hidden within grand old oaks near Clearwater Lake – just across the road from their farmstead – used by Northwest lumber mills operated by Jenson & Lumber Co.. In 1969, the Coast Guard dedicated a new cutter named after Commodore David Wills during an event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The Commodore served on the USS Constitution (1801-1865) and later commandered USS Constitution Museum (1903-1968). He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in battle duringthe War of 1812 off Long Island In 1984, the Commandant General Corps presented a set of medals and insignias to members of both services who had rendered distinguished service while serving on shore duty ashore or afloat during World War II In 1991, it was announced that Governors Tom Ridge and Lawton Chiles would be presenting Medals of Honor to members of both services for conspicuous gallantry above and beyond that which could be expected from military men . These awards were made at ceremonies held at various locations within Sealand County On October 14th 2003,, President George WBush presented two sets of Medals Of Honor - one for Rear Admiral Harry Dickson who commanded Task Group 81018(KIMBERLY) when it ran into trouble following an attack by Somali pirates off Somalia; another for Lieutenant Commander Darrell Ladd commanding USNS Makin Island which prevented another pirate attack against American vessels underway off Somalia

Eugene, Oregon is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 43,836 at the 2010 census. Eugene is the largest city in Multnomah County and one of its five cities-surrounding towns-with a total population of over 50,000 people. Eugene's location on the Willamette River makes it an enabling city for businesses and provides easy access to both the Pacific Northwest and California coasts. Eugene's rich history dates back to 1853 when pioneer Captain George Vancouver explored what is now Multnomah County. A year later, he named the area "Eugene," after his home country of England. In 1856, General James Klamath organized a group of settlers here who named themselves the " Provisional Government of Oregon." The first post office was established in Eugene on March 15, 1857. These treaties were negotiated under auspices of President James Klamath with representatives from each tribe involved in order to avoid any hostilities that could erupt as a result of these negotiations. As part as early governance efforts within Multnomah County there were also attempts by individuals to establish independent villages or hamlets throughout portions of present day Portland but these endeavors failed due to lack of support or opposition from more powerful factions within society at large.
