The history of Eugene, Oregon's shooter gift traditions is a long and varied one. There are shooters who have given away firearms for years before there were any shootings in the city. One of the earliest shooters to make an impact on Eugene's gift giving scene was Harry Prentice. In 1913, Harry donated a shotgun to the city as a way to promote gun safety and prevent crime. It wasn't until 1949 that another Shooter contributing directly to Eugene's cultural identity started giving away firearms – Bud Day. Bud founded the Eugene Rifle Club in 1949 and began donating rifles and shotguns to local schools as part of his donation drive. His initiative helped create a body of firearm-owning Eugeneians who participated in firearm ownership and responsible use throughout their lives. The club continues today as one of the most active Shooting organizations in town with over 150 members! Eugene has also been home to some incredible shooters over the years. Some of these individuals include: Larry Pratt (founder of NRA), Don Freeman (founder/director of CREATE!), Bob Kapp (creator/director of " Die Hard"), Jeff Cooper (creator/director/writer of "Pee Wee", "The Terminator") and Jim Goad (founder/editor-in-chief at OMNI). Each individual has left their mark on the City through their contributions to shooting activity or simply by being an amazing human being. These individuals have shaped what it means today for Eugeneans to own, shoot, explore, compete, community service – anything related to Firearms!

The Shooter's Gallery began in Eugene, Oregon, in 1990. It was started by two friends of ours who were both shooters. We wanted to create a place where people could come and learn about the art of shooting. Our goal was to be a resource for shooters of all levels and experience. Eugene, Oregon is a city of over 150,000 people and the county seat of Lane County. It is located in Oregon's Cascade Mountains on the banks of The Willamette River. Eugene was founded in 1879 by John C. Frémont and his group of American Explorationists as a trading post on the route between Portland and Seattle. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century, with its population reaching 350,000 by 1910. Eugene was named for General George Washington because he visited the area in 1795 while commanding British forces in California. During World War II, Eugene became one ofa numberof U.S. cities to take part in the "Battle for Tokyo". This battle saw many American servicemen die or are wounded as they fought against Japanese forces occupying Japan during World War II. In 1951, Eugene was selected to become capital of Oregon after statehood was granted to the state from Congress following the passage of Measure 97A which designated Portland as the state's new capital. Eugene has been an important cultural center within Oregon since its establishment and has played an important role in numerous statewide events including both presidential inaugurations (Ulysses S Grant in 1865 and Franklin D Roosevelt in 1933) and high school graduation ceremonies (John F Kennedy in 1961). Today, Eugene remains a vibrant community with strong support for arts and culture along with strong economic opportunities across several sectors such as education, health care, business services and information technology.

Eugene, Oregon is a small city located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon on the banks of the Columbia River. The population was 27,624 at the 2010 census. Eugene's history dates back to 1853 when the town was founded by fur traders and explorers. The United States Government purchased land for $1 from the local chief in 1857 and built Fort George Russell which served as a trading post and military base until 1859. In 1865, Eugene became an incorporated city with a population of 20 people. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its strategic location between Portland and Seattle on two main trade routes. By 1910, Eugene had reached 100,000 residents and was considered one of America's Rust Belt cities because it had few high-tech jobs but large concentrations of engineering and manufacturing jobs in such traditional industries as agriculture, lumbering, brewing, publishing, and transportation. During World War II Eugene played an important role in supplying troops with foodstuffs and munitions needed for the war effort. In 1945, following Japan's surrender, General Douglas MacArthur appointed Eugene Mayor Harry Heineman to be his representative on Okinawa Incursion Commission which inspects Japanese crimes against humanity during World War II. After Heineman's departure from office in 1951, Mayor John Ahern took over responsibility for City Hall affairs while also serving as City Manager from 1951 through 1964 under three different mayorships before becoming City Controller in 1966. During Ahern's tenure as City Controller he developed what is now known as "Ahernomics" which focused on increasing economic development within the city by creating new businesses opportunities; improving infrastructure including expanding streetcars; renovating or replacement of many city buildings; initiating major projects such as river restoration;and developing downtown into a vibrant commercial district that included several high-rise apartment buildings completed during his term (1982-1992). In 1992 Eugene voters passed Measure 97 which repealed all taxes except sales tax rate increases that would benefit low income residents who resided in certain areas of the city limits (those within 2 miles of any school or park). This measure represented another watershed moment for Downtown Eugene because it markedthe first time ever that a municipalitywide tax increase had been approved by 96% of registered voters without going through either Council or Hearings process like other similar measures previously proposed throughout much of Northwest Oregon during this same period. After passage ofMeasure 97 Downtown experienced rapid growth culminating with several new high rise apartments being erected just south thereof across First Ave from Parkside Park starting around 1996 thru 2006 inclusive (see photo below). These developments were also implemented pursuant to Ahernomics principles established prior thereto including expanded pedestrian walkways connecting both neighborhoods providing easy access not only to eateries/bars along First Ave., but also amenities such as movie theaters/entertainment complexes located adjacent thereto (eastern side) - making Downtown Eugene one contiguous nightlife destination longer than any other Uptown neighborhood anywhere within Oregon! The photo above shows some notable events taking place during my time as Mayor beginning about 1996 thru 2006 inclusive: Eugenians come out to support their favorite team...It really does feel like home! During my time I coached our boys' varsity soccer team & helped get them ready for state playoffs where they made it all the way to 3rd place before losing out 5-0 against eventual champions Salem State University!
