Coast guard gift history in Forest Grove, Oregon began with the establishment of the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department on August 15, 1903. The first captain of the FD was George W. White and his gift for firefighting was a quantity of cannons and rifles from Gadsden County, Alabama. The Portland Orchards Company established their nursery in Forest Grove in 1902. The company donated an Orchard Seed Jar to be used as a collectible tool for tree care (now part of the forest grove museum). The Forest Grove Grange No. 6 were founded in 1916 by Mrs. Lillian Boice and Mr. James Henshaw II. Their gifts included land for a farm and a home for parsonage use (now part of the forest grove museum). In 1922, United States Coast Guard Cutter "Pioneer" was donated to the city by Mayor Atherton and Mrs. Atherton’s husband Jock Stevens Jr.. The Friends Committee on Education organized a fundraiser at Stinson Beach to purchase the boat which had been damaged during World War I. When it became clear that she would not be available for another year or so,the committee decided to give her to Forest Grove instead! It wasn’t until 1945 when Coast Guard Cutter "Haida" arrived in town from Astoria, Oregon after being delivered by barge from Tacoma Washington! She served as patrol boat/guard ship until 1958 when she was decommissioned and sold to Japan who renamed her "Kaga". In 1979 she returned to the United States under tow to Seattle Washington where she was scrapped! This is only one example of many Coast Guard Cutters that have gracefully passed through our community over time!

Forest Grove is a small city in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It is bordered by the Columbia River to the east, and the Salem hills to the north. The population was 9,849 at the 2010 census. The City of Forest Grove was founded on November 12, 1885 by John Wesley Hardin, who purchased 234 acres (110 hectares) of land from Joseph Laney for $1,000. Hardin named his new town after Forrest Grove in Manchester County, England where he had been born in 1824. The first post office in Forest Grove was established on December 3, 1886. A year later, Forest Grove became a capital city with its own government and electric light company. In 1927, Forest Grove became an annexe of Portland and lost its autonomy as an independent municipality under then-Mayor Alfred Pye. In 1940 it regained full independence when Portland repealed its annexation ordinance passed two years earlier which had annexed much of what is now Forest Grove into Portland. As part of this process,Portland also rechristened Forest Groves "Portland". In 1961–1963 Portland Mayor Sam Adams wanted to rename all cities in Oregon as "multilingual" so that all residents could be able to understand each other's languages fluently without having to learn multiple dialects simultaneously - this idea eventually morphed into Portland's streetcar system which began operating in 1966Original name: “Portland Streetcar”First service: October 1th1966 thru May 31st1968

Forest Grove is a small town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,749 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The history of Forest Grove goes back to 1853 when it was called "Fremont". In 1865, the town platted and became known as "Forest Grove", after the forest on which it was located. In 1893, Forest Grove-Livermore had its own post office. In 1907, Forest Grove annexed Livermore and became one municipality with a population of 912 people. The first school in Forest Grove opened in 1909 and served grades K-8. A new high school was built in 1962 and serves grades 9-12 today. In 1984, Forest Grove city council voted to annex more land from neighboring Laytonville so that it could build a new library for its citizens. The annexation was approved and the library opened in 1985 with 137 books on hand plus an addition for 50 more that were added during construction cost overruns caused by over budgeting by City Council members themselves! On December 6th of that year, Mayor Don Hargrave dedicated the newly constructed $10 million Park & Recreation Center just east of downtown while also recognizing ForestGrove's long history as an agricultural center with produce sales being conducted out front on State Street until 1967 when this activity moved into what is now known as the Community Market across from Pacific Horticulture Supply
Forest Grove is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 26,898 at the 2010 census. Forest Grove is located on the Willamette River and includes part of the central business district of Portland. The city was founded by John Day in 1879 as a small farming community named "Day's Landing" on the banks of the Willamette River. The name changed to Forest Grove in 1907 after Hillsboro, Oregon became part of Multnomah County. In 1968, Forest Grove incorporated as a city and adopted a plan for combining its constituent villages into one unified area called "The Biggest Little City". The first planning session for The Biggest LittleCity took place on October 12-14, 1968 and resulted in the creation of five Village areas: North Park (Area 1), West Park (Area 2), South Park (Area 3), East Park (Area 4) and downtown (Area 5). In 1990, Multnomah County completed an $82 million project to update and widen Interstate 84 through Forest Grove. This project included widening four lanes from eastbound to westbound along I-84 between Portland Avenue and Northwest Third Street; adding two new exits near Woodstock Road/Highway 97 north of town center; redesigning several intersections; increasing streetlights; and adding infrastructure improvements such as water main replacement, sidewalks and bike paths throughout the village areas. In 2003, Forrest Gump opened up shop in downtown Forest Groove when it vacated its previous location at 10th & Burnside Streets across from Stadium Goods store which had been home to JCPenney since 1975. At that time downtown was about half full with businesses Catalyst Coffee Company Data Processing Solutions Inc., Fidelity Investments USA-Oregon Division office suite expansion also under way at this time Cyber Space Cafe across from Subway restaurant nearing completion just blocks away with future plans including a movie theater Regal Cinemas adjacent to local grocery store Safeway
