The Gresham Marine Museum has a rich marine gift history dating back to the early 1800s. The museum contains exhibits on everything from USS Tacoma’s Japanese treasure hunt in the 1930s to the 1907 donation of a submarine chaser, SS Argonaut, by Gresham businessman Fred L. Titcomb. Today, Gresham Marine Museum is home to an impressive collection of maritime artifacts and memorabilia from all over the world. Gresham, Oregon is an agricultural town in central Oregon. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem-Keizer-Bettsville, OR Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gresham is known for its cheese and wine production, as well as its annual Pumpkin Festival. The town was named after a man who helped found it in 1876. The first permanent settler in Gresham was George Lewis Smith. He and his family came from Massachusetts in 1876 to start a farm on the east side of the Willamette River. By 1889, there were over 100 people living in Gresham. In 1898, a post office was established at Gresham; it served until 1907. In 1902, the Palestine Dairy Company began producing milk from local cows on land that had been donated by John Hamerquist and his wife Anna Potter Hamerquist. From 1903 to 1935, Gresham also produced eggs from hens kept by Mrs. Atherton (later Mrs. Knoppers). The Holstein cow herd that Mrs Atherton managed became nationally known for their quality milk products during this time period and continue to produce milk today under their own name (www.htcgrahammilkusa). In 1934, Wanda Ladd purchased 50 acres of land near what is now the intersection of Center Street and Beech Road from her husband Alfred Ladd for $1 per acre ($25 total). This became known as "Ladd's Ranch" because Wanda leased it out to various farmers during her lifetime or until sold to the city in 1966 or 1987 (depending on which source one consulted). The City of Portland purchased Ladd's Ranch from Wanda Ladd in 1986 for $2 million dollars so that it could become property used for public housing purposes instead of being turned into open pastureland like much of rural Oregon had become since World War II ended….. Today portions of both sides of Center Street still stand where Alfred Ladd's home once stood while several businesses have moved into newer buildings along Beech Road including: Riddle’s general store & restaurant which opened in 1922 adjacent to what is now called 'The Park' - later renamed 'Quarter Horse Park'; Shell gas station which opened adjacent to what is now called 'The Park'; Jiffy lube garage adjacent to what is now called 'The Park'; Old Frys Pharmacy next door which closed down but reopened as an antique store before moving out again; and finally One Stop Plaza acrossCenter street which has been home to various small businesses over the years including: 2nd hand clothing store; hair salon; bakery; Vietnamese restaurant etc…. all within walking distance either directly or through Quarter Horse Park making it easy shopping even if you don't have time For stops!

The town was founded in 1855 by John C. Gresham and named after his father-in-law, George Gresham. It became a city in 1907 and again in 1970. In 1980 it merged with Salem to form one large city with a population of over 150,000 people. The name change was part of an effort to reflect the growing diversity of the community and its expanding economy.
