The United States Air Force operates over 350,000 square miles of airspace in 34 countries. It has a population of over 186 million people and is the largest air force in the world. The USAF has an extensive history dating back to World War I. Today, the USAF is one of the most powerful military forces on Earth and its capabilities are critical to US national security. The origins of the USAF can be traced back to World War I when America entered into combat against Great Britain and France. In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson established the National Defense Commission which appointed Maj. Gen. John J Pershing as Commander-in-Chief of American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). As General Pershing led his troops across Europe, he realized that airpower was essential to victory. He ordered all American bases in Europe enlarged and began development of planes that could fly at high altitude and survive in hostile territory. In 1940, America entered World War II with full commitment under President Franklin D Roosevelt. TheAAF became known as the “Allied Air Forces” and played a vital role in defeating Germany during World War II. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941; America declared war on Japan without waiting for allies Korea or Australia/New Zealand to join in anti-Japanese activities (the Allies did not declare war until December 8th). The RAF flew more strategic bombing missions than any other country during World War II – destruction was so great that it forced Hitler to call off his offensive against Russia at Kursk after only three days’ combat! TheAAF also played an important role in later campaigns such as Desert Storm and Kosovo where they were responsible for providing support to NATO forces while also flying Operation Allied Airfields which helped coalition ground units† achieve their objectives*. Happy Valley is a town in the U.S. state of Oregon, located on the banks of the Willamette River. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Happy Valley was platted in 1871 by J.D. Hammond and named after his happy valley farmstead in Scotland. The first permanent settler in Happy Valley was James Gormley, who arrived in 1872 from Illinois. Gormley built a log cabin on the east side of the river, about two miles (3 km) north of present-day Happy Valley High School. He and his wife soon had six children, all being born within a year of each other around 1872–73. A mill race ran through Happy Valley for woolen cloth and other goods transported downriver by boat; when it stopped running during prohibition, locals began making their own clothes from local cotton instead In 1875, Jens Petersen settled near Happy Valley with his family; he later became mayor of Portland but resigned to become an early promoter of Happy Valley's incorporation as a town in 1876 due to difficulties getting approval from then-County Commissioner John Willshire Sr.. In 1880, another pioneer, Ole Hansen, moved into what is now Happy Valley Square; he started a grocery store there that continued until 1974 when it closed because of competition from Safeway supermarket chain growth within the town limits Happy Valley experienced rapid growth following its incorporation as a town: more than 100 people settled here between 1886 and 1889 including 5 families who founded Pioneer Village on Depot Road east of downtown; this development spawned numerous businesses including three hotels (the Hotel Vancouver opened 1888 and burned down 1890), five schools (Pioneer Elementary School opened 1888-89, Pioneer Middle School 1908-10 and Pioneer High School 1912-13), two churches (First Congregationalist Church 1893-94 and Second Baptist Church 1896-97), four general stores (Hansen’s Hardware 1895-96; hardware store operated by Fannie Hansen until 1898 when her son took over); eleven businesses were licensed for business operation with respect to agricultural products such as hay wagons/cows/livestock/flowers etc.; these included ten restaurants – three Indian Head Mills restaurants which served Northern Pacific Railroad passengers before 1914 when they switched to private dining services; one Chinese restaurant which served Americanized Cantonese cuisine until 1941 In 1916–17 residents voted to name their community after Otto Kapler – president and CEO emeritus Kaiser Broadcasting Co.; Kapler donated $5 million toward building facilities for Oregon State University which were completed in 1922 adjacent to today's High Street plaza . kapler square also includes an annual corn festival held late summer
