Hillsboro, Oregon is a small town located in Curry County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,596 at the 2010 census. Hillsboro is part of the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area and is home to the Morrison Bridge and MAX light rail systems. The city's nickname "The City of Roses" comes from its many red roses that are found throughout downtown. Hillsboro was founded on March 15, 1887 by George Hill and his wife Jennie Boggs Hill. In 1907, construction began on what would become known as Pioneer Park/Mill Pond Park which included two miles of hiking trails through forested hills and meadows overlooking Allens Creek which served as meeting points for various village activities including cricket matches against nearby Vancouver and Seattle games at Holmby Park; stayings at Tent Camps near Mill Pond Junction; dances given by Ladies’ Auxiliary Club at Mills Landing ponds; Model T races around alluvial plains east of Allens Creek; model airplanes built by Orville Wright flown over Pioneer Park on July 4th 1908 while supplies were being unloaded from Pullman car #2 at Pioneer Landing; pioneer cemetery sites well documented today with interpretive signage along access routes including Mill Pond Road leading south from downtown to mill pond junction where access begins today via Rte 97A just south of town limits
