Hillsboro, Oregon is a small town located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The population was 3,631 at the 2010 census. Hillsboro is part of the Portland metropolitan area and is home to many large companies such as Nike, Amazon, and Microsoft. The community has been called "the happening place" for its growing arts scene, lively nightlife, and central location in the city. The first people to live in what is now Hillsboro were Native Americans who hunted game on the surrounding hills. In 1853, John C. Stevens founded the town on land that he purchased from the Yakima Nation. When Stevens died in 1869 his wife donated most of her estate to establish a public school system in Hillsboro with $5 per student assigned to each family for one year until equipment could be procured or money ran out. In 1898, when Congress created Multnomah County through an act of Congress Apportionment No. 7-98 (3), it included parts of present-day Hillsboro Township including what are now portions of Northwest Portland and Beaverton; however no new towns were established within that county boundary at that time due to lack of population or political will by those responsible for its organization such as commissioners or supervisors…. On July 1st 1909 Northwest Portland became separate from Multnomah County and so too did Hillsboro Township which then voted unanimously to become a part of NW Portland….. On November 15th 1916 becoming one step closer to being annexed into PB&G Railway Company's expanding city limits saw 2nd street renamed Pierside Avenue after Mrs JF Ballard (founder member NWPB)….. After years of discussions between PB&G Railroad Company executives & representatives from both cities over property lines east/west streets were finally given their final turn around March 31st 1920 as part of a larger network project costing $250K
