The Marine Corps has been a part of the Oregon community for over 120 years. On December 12, 1941, during World War II, the United States Marines landed in Oregon to help fight against Japan. The Marines have fought in many wars and campaigns since then- most notably during Operation Neptune’s Spear (1949), which saw them stationed in South Korea. In recent years, the Marines have deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq- both times sending their finest men and women into harm’s way. Today, there are marines stationed throughout Oregon- including Lake Oswego. The Marines presence here began with troops who served in World War I; it wasn’t until 1922 that an actual Marine Camp was established on the shores of Lake Oswego. Over time, other camps were established on various points around the lake; today there are barracks specifically for marine use located at Roslindale Marina and La Jolla Cove Park. In 1951, when Oregon became a state, the Marine Barracks were moved from Portland to Lake Oswego. At this point in time, they were one of only a few bases nationwide open to military personnel assigned to support law enforcement activities within our state boundaries. Since then, marines have played an important role in law enforcement activities all across the state; from providing security at events such as State Fairivals to patrolling beaches during high season. They also provide assistance with Search and Rescue operations as needed. This year marks their 125th anniversary- making them one ofAmerica’s oldest and most revered militaries!

Lake Oswego, Oregon is one of the most beautiful and picturesque locations in the United States. It was first settled by people in 1848 and has been a major city since 1912. Today, it is home to over 350,000 people and is the largest city in Lane County. The city is known for its cute old homes, pristine lakeside views,and delicious food. In addition to its many attractions, Lake Oswego also contains some of the most interesting history in Oregon. The area that today includes Lake Oswego was originally part of the Willamette Valley region that stretched from central Oregon to down into California. The valley was used for farming, mining, and trade before it became a place where people lived and worked together. The first humans to live in this area were the Hennepin tribe who built their first village here around 1000 BC. Over time, other groups moved into this area as well, including the various tribes that inhabited what is now Oregon before European settlement began. In 1848, American settlers started moving into this region after being spurred on by news of gold fields found near Sacramento California. These early settlers were not particularly interested in agriculture or mining – they instead wanted to find a place where they could build themselves a new life without interference from other cultures or competitors. As word spread about these new opportunities, more and more people came forward with offers to settle hereabouts. By 1850, there were already over 100 families living in what is now Lake Oswego Township (now part of Beaverton). The town quickly grew due to its location – it had easy access to water resources and good land for farming which made it an ideal place to grow crops and build homes. Things started getting tough though when Americans fought during the Mexican-American War (1846-1847). This conflict led to Violence throughout much of America which caused many innocent lives lost – including those of local residents such as locals John Atherton and James Irvine who both died at Battle Creek while helping troops fight against Mexican forces under General Antonio López de Santa Anna! In response to this tragedy, Congress passed the Pacific Northwest Ordinance which protected local civilians from violence should it continue unchecked! This ordinance helped bring economic stability within Lake Oswego township as farmers began investing money back into their businesses rather than fleeing across state lines for fear of retribution from their former USA neighbors! By 1870s things had really started picking up for Lake Oswego – development had occurred both within town limits as well as along adjacent rivers leading out towardsthe open ocean (something that would become increasingly common across much of North America following railroads!). One important factor behind this growth was lumberjack George Cascain’s establishment of a sawmill on Salmon River in 1871 which allowed him access not onlyto high quality wood but also fresh water supplies necessary for his operations! This sawmill would later become one of Oregon’s biggest employers with employees working long hours right up until World War II! Despite all these positive developments however, WWI finally brought trouble unto our small community when waves OF Soldiers descended upon us seeking recruits! Not only did this cause widespread destruction among buildings within town limits but also resulted in loss of life amongst residents themselves – something that still remains oneof OSGWO’s darkest moments ever!! Thankfully though things returned relatively unscathed by 1918 when military hostilities abruptly ended!! With so many positive changes ensuing fromWWI however little attention was given eitherto ORDinance or local culture which slowly dwindled over time culminatingin whats now called “the Good Old Days”!!!
The Oswego Reservoir was created in 1911 by the Oregon Development Commission. The reservoir served as a water storage and irrigation facility for the agricultural region around Eugene and Springfield, Oregon. It was enlarged in 1935 and again in 1942. In 1966, the reservoir was sold to the City of Eugene for use as an open-air park.
