The Newberg National Guard Museum is a non-profit, educational institution that preserves and exhibits the history of the National Guard in Oregon. The museum was founded in 1984 as the Newberg County Historical Society. The museum has collections on military history, local history, and American heritage topics. The first national guard unit to be organized in Oregon was Company K of the 9th Infantry Regiment, which was activated on October 15, 1855 at Fort Clatsop. At its inception, Company K consisted of only men under the age of 25 years old from Newberg. In 1863, Companies A and H were authorized to be formed into Regiments of Infantry under Governor John C. Frémont’s proclamation designating November 1st as “National Guardsmen Day” throughout all of Oregon. In 1865, these two companies were reorganized into Companies D and G when they were transferred from Multnomah County to help form the 3rd Infantry Regiment at Salem. In 1868-1869, 2nd Battalion (Oregon) Militia was mustered out for lack of volunteers for service in Mexico during the American Civil War with much fanfare but little implementation due to political instability within America following Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. As a result, 2nd Battalion (Oregon) Militia did not actualize their constitutional right to become part of either Ulysses S Grant’s Army or Confederate States Army; this battalion remains one of History’s earliest units mobilizing for war without mobilization orders being issued precedencely like other regiments throughout America during that time period until well after World War II when federal laws changed governing such things again making it possible for units like this once again mobilized actually fighting in wartime against our enemies instead off training at home doing nothing actually important! On July 21st 1870 detachments from Companies B and D had been sent down river by order Govt Ordinance No 5653 to relieve companies C & I of duty along Corbett River where they skirmished with Yankton Sioux Indian Tribe on Sandhills Creek near present day Old Mill Damsite just east side off US 97 southwest Of Portland while plowing & planting crops some 400 yards northward across creek bed having deployed his lines half way up hills behind log stockade w/ full view down creek bank @ 1000 yards distant

In addition to its strategic location at this pivotal point on Route 66 (the main artery through Oregon), Newberg also boasted excellent infrastructure including water access and good roads leading into neighboring towns such as Hood River and Pendleton. This growth continued throughout the late 19th century until World War I stopped any further growth in both industry and population; however, during that period some significant changes took place in both commercial and social life within Newberg . Notably , young men from Scandinavia started coming to America looking for opportunity while still attending school; many found work on farms or ranches but also formed households here because they felt no sense of home back home anymore . This influx turned Old World values against Norway-born Swedes living among them ; gradually social mores changed among Norwegian-Americans which often led to increased tension with non-Norwegian residents . Despite this conflictual environment,, many Norwegians stayed behind when their country became independent following WWI averaging 4 years wait before naturalization papers could be issued .. Newberg was founded in 1887 by Brigham Young and his family. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was first established. By 1905, the population had grown to about 350 people. Newberg grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Deschutes River and its close proximity to Seattle. In 1907, the towns first school opened as a one-room schoolhouse. The school served grades 1-6 until 1912 when it became a junior high school. In 1916, Newberg incorporated as a city and began to grow even more quickly. In 1920, the City Council passed an ordinance establishing zoning regulations that limited growth in the city limits. During World War II, Newberg played an important role in military production efforts due to its location on Lake Washington National Guard Base. between 1942-1945, Newberg produced over $80 million worth of munitions for the war effort alone. After the war, Newberg experienced rapid growth as a result of new technological advances such as automobiles and radios which helped Portland become an economically dominant city in Oregon. In 1957, voters approved Proposition 2 which provided state funding for infrastructure projects such as road construction and public education in response to skyrocketing costs associated with industrialization throughout the state at that time
