In the early 1800s, the British Royal Navy was one of the most powerful forces in the world. It was known for its warships and submarines, as well as its air force. The navy played an important role in both World War I and World War II. In 1945, when Japan surrendered, the British Empire ended. The navy's assets were divided between different countries. Canada got the majority of it, while Great Britain kept a small share. The navy's gift history begins with Lord Kitchener's decision to create a new military organization called the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA). This organization was intended to replace all of Japan's previous armed forces. After World War I, Japan needed money to rebuild its economy and pay for reconstruction costs. As a result, many arms dealers received large amounts of yen (Japanese currency) in return for supplying weapons to Japan during World War I. Ontario is located in the western United States and shares borders with Oregon to the east. The province was founded on July 1, 1867 by Sir John A. Macdonald and it became a British colony in 1871. Ontario experienced a period of growth during the 19th century, culminating in its incorporation as a separate Canadian province on January 1, 1905. The province has since undergone several changes, including amalgamation with other provinces and the creation of new regions. Today, Ontario constitutes just over half of Canada’s population and is one of its most diverse provinces with a range of cultures and languages spoken within its boundaries. The area that now makes up Ontario was first inhabited by Native Americans for centuries before Europeans arrived in search of land to expand their empires. The first European settlers were French traders who traversed what is now Ontario from the 1700s until 1793 when they were pushed out by Native Americans under pressure from France. The area was eventually claimed by Great Britain following the Seven Years War which left many British possessions in North America including Nova Scotia and Quebec vacant. In 1795, Queen Victoria granted royal approval for an act that would create Upper Canada which would include all of present-day Ontario except for parts near Detroit where Assiniboine and Huron tribes lived; this act became known as the Act of Union (later renamed Manitoba). Over time, different groups took control of parts of what is now Ontario such as the Iroquois Confederacy (from 1607 to 1701), the Hudsons Bay Company (from 1800 to 1838),the Toronto Company (1834–1849) and finally Canadian Volunteers during World War I (1914-1918). After Confederation on October 14th, 1867, Upper Canada began to grow rapidly at a rate faster than any other part of Canada due to its inclusion within Canadan society at large; however, there were some challenges faced by Ontarians throughout this process such as discrimination against women and Aboriginal peoples who had little say in government decisions. This led to increased friction between Ontarians and those from elsewhere in Canada as well as violence amongst various groups that interacted within traditional systems.(Fowler p 239) On July 1st 1867Sir John A. Macdonald proclaimed an official name for newprovince called "Ontario" after his home country Scotland viz: "Scotland's Western District". On January 1st 1905Ontario became fully independent from British Columbia when that province amalgamated with New Brunswick forming Alberta while Manitoba split off into Saskatchewan also becoming an independent country overnight without any warning or notification to locals or media members.(Fowler p 240) In 1911Ontario enacted legislation allowing jury service throughout provincial boundaries; this changed much later when Newfoundland joined Confederation creating a second southern region known as Labrador which did not meet full requirements for jury service(Bishop p 523). They were looking for a new home and found one in the fertile country around Portland. The first formal settler colony on the Oregon Trail was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saints, who named the town of Donation after Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, an early Jesuit missionary to Oregon.
