Oregon City is a city in Klickitat County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is named after the Oregon Trail and was first settled by fur traders in 1841. The first military deployment of gift history occurred on October 3rd 1870 when the US Army Corps of Engineers erected an earthwork fortification around what is now called Fort George Wright to protect against possible Native American attacks during the winter months. The fortifications were later replaced by Camp Floyd in 1886 and then by Fort Boise in 1907. During World War II, Oregon City served as Ladd Barracks for 15th Infantry Division Troops stationed in Tillamook County until 1944 when it became an airfield used by theAAF Ninth Air Force Flying Training Command detachment No. 1 (Wright Field). In 1945 it reverted back to its original name of Oregon City and remained that way until 1991 when it was renamedFort George Wright National Monument under US Department of Defense regulations governing national monuments created pursuant to President George H W Bush’s Executive Order 12652 which declared all U S federal structures and properties within 100 miles (160 km) of Seattle, Tacoma, or any other major urban center unconstitutional prior to their relocation to avoid downtown demolition.] Oregon City has seen various deployments throughout its history including World War I where it served as a camp for troops training at Yakima River Naval Station; World War II where it served as Ladd Barracks for 15th Infantry Division Troops stationed here until 1944; Korea where it played host to U.S. Forces from 1951-1953; Operation Desert Storm which saw members of the 1st Battalion 10th Marines deployed here from 1995-1998; and Operation Iraqi Freedom which began on March 20th 2003 and ended two weeks later with members of 2nd Brigade Combat Team 9th Marine Regiment deploying here from December 26th- January 2nd 2004.]

In Oregon City, Oregon, the city's military history dates back to 1846. The first military unit in Oregon was the 1st Infantry Regiment of volunteers from Portland. This regiment served in the Mexican War and when war ended it disbanded. In 1848, an act passed by the state legislature authorized the formation of a battalion of volunteer militia to protectOregon City from attack. This battalion became Company K of the 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment Oregon Volunteer Infantry on February 14, 1848. On December 12, 1850, company K was re-organized as a battalion and redesignated as Company A of the 9th Regiment Oregon Volunteer Infantry. Company A patrolled Journal River during daylight hours between October 1861 and March 1862 while stationed at Salem Barracks; participated in Battle of Salem on April 10; fought at La Grande action on May 4 and 6; participating in siege of Corvallis on June 5-7; partook in fighting at Gold Rush Creek from September 25 until November 10; moved to Christian County January 1863 for duty there with regiment until mustered out July 1865 On January 3, 1861, Company B (Creek Indians) was organized within Company A with six men. These men were: James Ewing (Cheyenne), John Witherspoon (Haida), Asa Gamble (Welek), Isaac Rice (Tlingit), George Barker (Mormon).
