However, it wasn’t until 1862 when McLoughlin partnered with Ishmael Smith to open what would become known as Nueces Coffee House on123 NE 42nd Ave., which served only watery Java waffles! It wasn’t until 1865 when they changed their name to The Daily Review Coffee House because they were being published twice a day at then-Fremont Street Station on First Avenue NW! Nueces lasted until 1915 before closing due to financial difficulties; however this is generally considered one of the earliest cafes where Java waffles were served instead of actual coffee! Oregon Trail Cafes & Saloons: This describes several different locations throughout downtown that acted as stopovers along Oregon Trail days during their journey from California through Oregon. These locations included The Hermitage (now closed), Chinese Temple Tavern (now Broadway Theatre), Wyoming Hotel (now City Hall Plaza), Goodrich Storehouse (now Beaux Arts Museum - across from Pioneer Courthouse Square) etc….. Today most likely located near Powell’s Books or within walking distance of any business location along I-5 corridor between Salem AND Eugene OR…. Some memories include prohibition era refreshments like moonshine made from sugarcane collected downriver at Alderney Ferry Point…… later Prohibition era drinks such as White Elephant mixed liquors available at various Central Oregon stores….. also various neon signs advertising various Refreshments inside those stores!!! Portland State University's Fine Art Department website says "the first espresso machine was built by Italian immigrant Antonio Petrini around 1898." However this story may be apocryphal- most likely fabricated by students working on the website while under guidance from faculty members
